Apart from (for me) being the stand out track on the new album, what on earth is an ammaring? Is it German?

October 13, 2000 at 8:53 am #52983I looked that up on an online English – German translation thing.
It wasn’t recognised as being a German word though – it could be a slang word I guess.
October 13, 2000 at 1:32 pm #52984well i only assumed it was German.
A mystery eh?

November 13, 2000 at 3:50 pm #52986I’m curious to find out a little more about J’s interest in ammachi. I’ve been wondering if J was interested in ammachi since last June when my friend, who took me to see her on her tour of the US, noticed some retro new balance in the shoe racks(everyone who visits ammachi removes their shoes while there). I remembered noticing similar ones a few nights earlier on J at his acoustic show at the Croc. I then discovered his June tour took J to all the same cities that ammachi was visiting. I haven’t read any interviews with him talking about her, but am very curious if he actually did visit ammachi on that tour(or if they were just coincidences), and what he thinks about the whole amma experience. I was kind of blown away by seeing her and am curious what another rocker’s experience of amma is. If anyone comes across an interview, or any information let me know, thanks.
November 17, 2000 at 7:17 am #52987About J & the Indian saint Mother Amma…
I did an interview with J for my fanzine, Being Different, a coupla years ago while J was doin a solo acoustic show in finland. He told me he was goin to "see this woman..she’s a kind of a guru", while in Finland. So there. Not my business, but apparently J is interested in her light..J was wearing a t-shirt with Amma’s face on it. So go figure.

In an interview on the Belgian radio, he told the interviewer it’s a kind of Indian ring.
February 1, 2002 at 10:52 am #52989Chris-here`s some info on Amma.
February 2, 2002 at 2:52 am #52990I don’t remember where it was, but someone also posted an interview somewhere that said J went to India (I think) to visit the Amma place and seems like he stayed a week or more. Said he saw her hug millions of people or something like that.
Anybody remember what I’m talking about?
February 2, 2002 at 2:58 am #52991I remember J saying in a interview he saw Amma hug hundreds of thousands in one day.
February 2, 2002 at 5:33 pm #52992isn’t ammaring in the lord of the rings too? some people get pretty into that stuff, i hear.
February 8, 2002 at 2:12 am #52993That is cool to find out what the word/wording means. I don’t feel that I’m ever slow on the uptake but I have to say everytime I listen to the song I really focus on the words to understand a fuller meaning. Thanks to everyone for the findings. You all rock!
August 10, 2002 at 5:42 pm #52994Don’t think I’ve seen this here b4 so… J & Amma

August 10, 2002 at 6:27 pm #52996very interesting find, Allison
this article gives a lot of background info about what Amma means to J.
I just wondered how much he is into Amma and her philosophy. According to that interview she seems to be very important in his life
I think more and more that his affinity to the ‘freedom’-topic on his new record derives from here… -
