i saw j mascis at the double door in chicago a few months ago, i was just thinking it was a great show
j mascis played a great set loved every second of it was great………BUT cobra verde was a crap fest!!!! trash i tell you! nothing brings a show down faster then rock snobs. it was almost a strokes rip off band (at best! and the stroke are retro garbage as well). the return of retro mod rock is going to be the death of good tasteJuly 8, 2002 at 7:46 pm #53892NO offense, dude, but I don’t think this is the right forum.
July 8, 2002 at 8:24 pm #53893I like Cobra Verde OK myself. I even like that "I Hate Cobra Verde ‘Cause Bob Pollard Does" song. I done got my reasons.
July 9, 2002 at 3:46 pm #53894Hey Redrighthand,
We had some really good reviews of Cobra Verde from that Empty Bottle show, I like what I’ve heard so far myself.
Maybe once you hear them play with J you will be converted
Here’s the article where J talks about the new album and CV… Chicago

July 11, 2002 at 1:18 pm #53895Cobra Verde a Strokes rip-off? Would that make the Gibson Brothers a White Stripes rip off?
I dig the Cobra Verde. Y’all should check out Death of Samantha, too. Former labelmates (Homestead) with you-know-who.
July 11, 2002 at 3:34 pm #53896yayy! a death of samantha appreciator!! i loved that band. homestead sure had a great roster in those days (great plains, etc.).
as for the strokes thing, people have occasionally compared julian casablancas and john petkovic as far as looks and attitude go but considering how long john’s had cobra verde as well as the relative quality of musicianship, i don’t think the comparison goes very far. plus the strokes really want to be guided by voices, which is a totally different head man. totally.
July 11, 2002 at 6:45 pm #53897deepsludge don’t take offense…..a band a crappy as cobra verde need the help of mascis
July 20, 2002 at 12:37 am #53898I just saw Cobra Verde in a commercial for an internet service of some kind the other day. I was watching Tech TV, and sure enough Cobra Verde was a part of the commercial playing. I remembered the song and sure enough the front of the kick drum had the bands name/logo on it. I couldn’t get over it. If anyone else has seen this please update with andditional info if possible. I can’t say I’m a true fan of the Cobra but I have seen many others with much less talent/ability get up on stage to do there thing.
Just thought I would share. Later, ChrisJuly 20, 2002 at 10:26 am #53899Hi Chris, I keep hearing on different lists about the Tech TV ad with Cobra Verde. I have not yet seen the ad myself (I don’t watch much TV) but it’s been running for a while. I believe that is the old lineup of the band in the advertisement and not the one that has been touring since last August. One of these days hopefully I will see the actual ad myself.
