whats up with the gov bailing out the airlines with money so they wont go out of business or bankrupt? and whats the deal with travel agents wanting a piece of it too? i can think of tons of other things where money would be more needed. the airplane was invented in the early 1900’s. we got along fine without it before then……

Well, I don’t know when the saying: "The something was only invented in (insert year of invention). We got along fine before." was first heard, but I´m positive we could well do without it cause a) it´s absolutly meaningless and b) it´s wrong cause the plane has made many things easier, like the time when the Russians blocked all the roads to Berlin (that was after the war) and when I wanted to visit a friend in Australia. I heard people arguing in the line of: The Internet was only invented in the second half of the 20th Century. We got along fine before. I mean, how dumb can you get and I don’t know if you have any idea what life was like in the early 1900s but I can assure you it was hardly as convenient as it is today. Think a bit more positive, old chap.

it is the money situation which has sparked my interest. people without jobs, without homes, without food, in this country… is where money should go.. not to a multi-billion dollar industry

I hate to shatter your illusions, but capitalism rules . Cheer up it’s not all that bad, freedom of speach, democracy, all that stuff. Of course Capitalism tends to be cruel to the ones that don´t live up to it’s expectations(especially in America), but the very arrogance of American Capitalism made it a prime target in the first place and hey, you can´t really blame capitalism to look first after their own kind. I mean, you would do the same, wouldn’t you?

if i had tons of cash, i would rather take care of immediate concerns at home that were more wholey suited for financial assistance.

Well, nicely put but we’re not talking about tons of money here. I mean, tons of money for you would mean, more that you can spend. It’s easy to be genorous if you have more than you can spend. Unfortunately the American goverment is in no such position. In fact, it has lent itself rather a lot of money over the years. So there is a question of who’s gonna het some help and who isn’t, now that the recession is rising it’s ugly head. And if you had to make a decision, wouldn’t you support the people who have supported you in the past rather than the people who haven’t. I think you would.

I have mixed feelings about this one….If I were a flight attendant who got laid off with no notice and no compensation, I would definitely demand some kind of restitution. But since when is it the government’s job to bail out commercial industries? Airlines aren’t federally funded (or are they?); if Dubya is gonna pump money into them, I think it’s only fair that he do the same for grocery store cashiers, sanitation workers, and other American workers who have faced sudden job termination. Who is to say which jobs are more valuable?
