errrrrr, are they well good? and why do non-dino fans hate them so much? (as people have mentioned)

i may well buy one of their cds, which one should i get?

also, they are playing near me soon (on the day of my last A-level exam in fact) so should i see them? for eight pounds..

Hey Sappy,

Think there is a link to some live Modest Mouse stuff under the mp3 sharing forum…one of them anyway. I am partial to the disc Building something out of nothing…very cool songs. If you have the chance to check them out go for it, should be cool.

Can’t explain the anti modest mouse stuff going on but some interesting quotes from my husband last nite….called them….the bizarro Stooges…hehe. He also likes to talk in a butthead voice….sucks isn’t a strong enuf word…one of his fav ways to describe his feelings about mm. Oh well

Some people just don’t get it… In life that is. Sure, they’re fine upstanding, good people, they just don’t get ‘it’. They think that music has to fit a certain format or else it defaults to ‘suck’ (the current format seems to be Pearl Jam-esc )

As far as Modest Mouse goes, I’m partial to ‘Lonesome Crowded West.’ But now I’ve caused you a delima, sappy… Which to by first??? Well, they’re both great, so either way, I doubt you’ll be dissappointed…

Preach on Brotha Matt

Sappy – Building Something.. was my starting point with Modest Mouse. It is a collection of the early singles (all of which are great)
You can’t go wrong with any of them though..

Hey,

Recently taped a much music interview with Mascis, Watt and George. Watt was very sarcastically talking about the greatest bands in the world from the Florida area….Creed & Matchbox 20…J, George and Watt all laughed hugely about that one.
Thought you might like to know that one…you are not alone in your contempt for Creed!!!

thanx for the replies…

Mattman, u must be talkin about creed and people..but im thinking that the current trend is jeff buckley copy-cats like muse and such. england is full of shite indie-whiners like them, coldplay, jj72 and travis…whats it like in the us? i hear matchbox 20 r quite big

i know what u mean about people not getting it…but it’ll always be like that. some bands shuld just be flushed down the toilet

ps, i like pearl jam..copycat bands eww, but pearl jam hav made a lot of good music..another band influenced by neil young

Yeah, I liked Pearl Jam’s first 2 albums… After that, crap…

I was talking about the Creed crowd in my last post… FUN FACT: Creed’s from my town… They’re treated like heroes here. Funny thing is, I didn’t like them even before they were famous…

well the thing is Vs. was quite different to Ten, but then their sound just kinda stayed the same..its what pearl jam do u know, just play what they play and keep playin it. that may be a bit borin but a lot of people like what they do.

as for creed, i liked the first album when it was out a few years ago, then after seeing their videos and new stuff i realised what a bunch of wankers they are. they just seem really arrogant and ‘cock-rock’-like. he blatantly rips off eddie’s vocal style as well.. I never got into mainstream alt stuff;Nirvana was good and everyone that followed I did`nt like.I checked out what the local college station was playing and stuck to that;some bands I like are semi-mainstream like Teenage Fanclub.I guess j fits in with the semi-mainstream or maybe not.Indie bands that made moderate sucess might be called semi-mainstream.I don`t like catorgories,I`m sick of
the words alternative, indie, emo said by people
who would`nt know what they mean if they fell over it.Why can`t we call these terms rock music and leave it like that.In indie rock there`s terms like twee pop/slowcore/dream pop/emo/space rock-It`s stupid!every music has these stupid sub-genres in jazz it`s bop/hard bop/post bop/free bop…it`s just jazz!
Oh yeah modest mouse;good band, there is alot
of backlash against them;one reason I think
is Iassic Brock who was`nt formally charged
for date rape of a seattle woman.I heard this on the CBC radio show here in canada called Brave New Waves. It`s pretty disturbing to think that someone we listen to would do this and I hope that he is innocent of it.If Iassic is
reading this I`m sorry for bringing this up but people here don`t understand why there`s so much anti-mouse talk.

Hey Salamiguy,

Thanks for the info, don’t know anything about the incident you talked about. The anti MM behavior in my case…zombie husband…is not related to that but that my husbands brain is not wired properly We share tons of the same likes/dislikes but he just can’t get his brain around MM…odd, I think he needs some help

ps another Canadian…too cool

Not a big PJ fan, but I must disagree. After thier first 3 albums it was crap. Vitalogy may not have had the best lyrics, but musically, was prolly their best, IMHO.

I have to disagree with both of you .
After their first album came the crap.
Mirror Ball with Neil is ok though.

Mirror Ball is great. Song X may be Neil’s best song ever, barring, perhaps, Cowgirl In The Sand.

It was definately a departure from the acoustic Harvest Moon-era stuff he was amde famous by.
