      what do people here think of the strokes?

      i don’t think they live up to the hype and all the accolades they get. they are okay, not rock and roll saviors though. but all these critics keep putting them on their top ten lists.

      however, over the holidays i was forced to listen to some commerical radio and willingly watched some mtv. and this helped it all make sense. the rock bands that are played on the ‘alternative’ radio stations and mtv are amazingly bad. i really can’t believe how generic, wishy washy, and mediocre they all are. and they all sound the same–like matchbox 20 clones, and that band fucking sucks! most of these bands i had never heard of. the calling? alien ant farm? wtf is this shit? jesus, i even saw a creed video. so, by comparison, the strokes really are the best band since the velvet underground. if i were a music critic i would be putting the strokes on my list too.

      i am confounded by people who willingly accept this shit music fed to them by radio and mtv. don’t they know there is better stuff out there? all they have to do is take a little bit of time to do some research, which is immensely easy these days with the internet. i’ve met people who who say they just don’t want to do that, which i think is really sad and pathetic.

      this is one of my laments.

        my girlfriend got the strokes album for christmas. tis ok i suppose – as you say better than most of the stuff played on mtv.

        we have something called mtv2 over here which is supposedly alternative – seems to play alien ant farm, sum41, blink 182 all the time….

          have you guys seen the vh-1 classics channel? its prety good but way better than mtv 1 & 2. reminds me alot of the "good mtv" from the 80’s & early 90’s. i ve seen the pixies monkey gone to heaven & there goes your man videos. no dino jr yet 🙁 .also, there are no commercials!

            I like the Strokes a lot; they’re on top of my list of 2001. Of course they sound like a young Lou Reed, V.U and Television; but what I like so much is that they are realy sounding like a BAND! Nice songs, great little guitarwork. The only thing against them is the hype that is created. So forget the hype, forget the stupid "future of R&R-shit" and enjoy 37 minutes of enthousiastic Rock!
            The White Stripes are dealing with the same "hype-shit".

              I`ve have`nt heard too much by the Strokes but it sounds ok,I`m not running out to buy any soon though.I agree with BR that compared to other stuff out there it`s better.
              White Stripes have been getting alot of hype recently,I like them but wish some of the other bands I like would get more attention.When I bought White Blood Cells the guys in the store were raving about WS,like they were the greatest band ever,I did`nt understand it.WS are cool but I did`nt think they lived up to what those guys think they are.Maybe they `re used to listening to so much crap bands WS sounds totally amazing to them.
              I tried to get my cousin to listen to the bands I like,he liked a song here and there and I gave him some tapes to listen to,I doubt he listened to them.He`s satisfied with the crap that`s out there and does`nt see anything wrong with it.If it makes him happy then fine,that`s his taste in music.People are`nt interested in trying something new,but hey if it makes their day…

              Anyway I`m just rambling on,I have`nt slept in days,I got an ulcer inside of my mouth that feels like the size of a golfball,I think I burned it on supper the other night,I`ve been swishing around mouthwash to keep the pain away,I think it`s working.
