Nothing sappy here. Sorry, move along
So, I’m not really embarrased to admit this, but out of all my friends only one of them can relate to me on this matter.
I like hip-hop and rap. Some artists that I’ve been listening to lately and immensely enjoying are:
Aesop Rock
Kool Keith, etc..
RJD2
Illogic
DJ Shadow
Blackalicous
De La SoulSo, in that same genre of sorts, what do you guys and gals listen to? What do you think I would like? Or something completley different, but you just have that feeling that more people would like if they heard it? My fair city of Columbus actually is home to a few of the above (RJD2 and Illogic, not to mention Lil Bow Wow ) and they do shows every now and then.
I’m actually going to see Kool Keith here on Thanksgiving night. Try explaining that to the family. Has anyone seen him before? What should I expect? All Kool Keith stuff? Or a mix of Dr Octo, Dr Doom and Kool Keith stuff? Or all new, restyled songs?

November 13, 2002 at 1:36 pm #73122I grew up on hip-hop actually, punk didn’t happen for me until the 10th grade (thank you Kurt). I like:
Jurassic 5
the Roots
Wu-Tang (especially Ghostface Killah)
Common
I would recommend J5’s new one (dvd bonus is hillarious) and they KILL live. Roots Come Alive is one of the best live discs ever. Some hip-hop has a little too much misogyny and homophobia for me at times, but I still indulge from time to time…November 13, 2002 at 3:22 pm #73123I have to admit, can’t spend my life without it: The Roots, Eryka Bahdu, Mary J. Blidge, Otis Redding… Have any of you seen the movie "Brooklyn Babylon" ? (I guess this is related to The Roots…) Another good must-see.

November 14, 2002 at 11:30 am #73127Public Enemy
Ice T
Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy (Hypocrisy is the Greatest Luxury)
Grandmaster Flash & The Furious FiveNovember 14, 2002 at 11:53 am #73128There was a group here called the Dream Warriors, I don’t know if they’re still around. Plus Choclair, plus, yes, I forgot about DJ Shadow. Plus Amon Tobin (a.k.a "Cujo"), plus The KLF who did this freaky ambient album called "The White Room." Plus Missy Elliot has something good (the video blows my mind). Plus Yvon Krevé; ‘maman’, this is the first time I ever outright cried when I heard a song. Plus DJ’s Kwite Sane +guests, who have this really good show on CKUT 90.3 FM called "Masters At Work."
