Hey everybody… I just wanted to let you all know that my computer died this morning…
It’s been acting kinda flakey for awhile now, but I thought I had fixed it when I replaced my buggy SBLive soundcard w/ a Turtle Beach ‘Santa Cruz.’ Well, I had flawless performance for about a week and this morning when I turned on my PC, the lights came on and the drives and fans spun up, but nothing happen after that…
I’ve been pulling, replacing, kicking, and rearranging all morning and so far the best I got was to start Windows loading and then lock up… I’m pretty sure its my motherboard. I’ve tried 2 different memory sticks, and I pulled out everything that wasn’t necessary for boot (motherboard, CPU, memory, video card.) Anyway, until I can get a replacement (about a week) my presence on Freakscene’s gonna be a bit sparce…
I’m on my parents machine now…

That majorly sucks man, I hope you get a new motherboard soon.
August 7, 2001 at 4:46 pm #82927Its a MSI 6330lite. Its a pretty shitty board to begin with. A lot of BIOS functions are crippled, such as bus speed, cpu multiplier, power config, etc. Its a budget board that came with the machine. I’ve been wanting to replace it for awhile, just never got around to dealing with it. Now it looks like I have to..
Currently looking at the ABIT KT7A. I’ve heard lots of good things about ABIT boards…

ABIT KT7-RAID is awesome, and if your 1337 enough to put a P4 in a socket A board… you’ll be my hero.

Why would I want to? Athlons still kick P4 @$$… Until software starts making use of the P4’s advanced instuctions, the Athlon will remain king… Athlons have more raw cpu power…

Yeppers, the athlons have more raw CPU power, but have you ever tried video encoding with an Athlon? The P4 advanced instructions are VERY helpful… you prolly don’t have a need for that sort of thing, but you’d still be a God if you can put those two together.

Maybe Miss Cleo wants her revenge? Eh… it’s possible…
August 12, 2001 at 2:51 am #82936Well, my new motherboard came yesterday…
I’m happy to say that I’ve successfully completed my first Socket A transplant. Got the computer to POST on my first try… And more importantly, I didn’t crush my CPU when I removed/reattached the heatsink/fan!!!
Well, I’ve got Win98 reloaded, now I’m off to install Win2k… Honestly, I must’ve reloaded both of my OS’s 3 or 4 times over the last couple of weeks… Oh well, at least I’ll be really good at it!!
