      im going to try this out, but i do not know exactly what i should be downloading off the mirror sites or the ftps. im unfamiliar with these files and if anyone can point me in the right direction, that would be cool. <img>

        version 4.5 is on 5 CDs ? im getting the isos now off ftp

            you can do a basic install with just the .iso of disc 1. i think the rest of the discs are mainly ports and window managers.

            i can never get x-windows set up properly through the install app. it detects my mouse, then changes the screen resolution and then goes black. yum.

              The best way to install FBSD is with the floppies. You then actually do the install via tne Internet. Would suck on dialup tho..

              Reading the manuel is recommended

                I am going to try a FBSD or OBSD after I get my Solaris 9×86 on the network. Damn Linksys 100 not supported out of the "box".. Of course, I need at least one more hard drive, and drive sled for the removeable drive bays I have.

                  the way i do it is have a local web or ftp server with the linux/freebsd install files in a directory, boot the laptop with the floppy image and do either the ftp or web install. works great everytime if the box detects your nic.
                  image floppies are great for pcmcia or pci nics
