I’ve been falling behind on this sort of things, but I can’t write about nothing (that’s what livejournals for).
I went to see a friends band play at a VFW hall last night. It was a typical 8 band crappylocalpunkshow, you know, where the guitar amps are louder than the P.A. I won’t talk about the bands too much, as they aren’t important, except this one that sounded EXACTLY like A New Found Glory (yech), they had the best equipment.
I will tell you about a group from georgia that came through, they’re called Carrie Nations, and they’re pretty cool, just so geeky and uncool that you have to love them, they’re sort of punky (they signed to Plan-it-X for gods sake!) but certainly not cliche’.
I’ll also tell you that I’m never getting drunk again. No, I wasn’t drinking (not with snow and ice and shit coming down) but some people I know from school accompanied me, bad people, shitfaced people.
But what really pisses me off is that I mysteriously have a dent in the back of my car. there isn’t any damage to the bumper, so either somebody attacked my vehicle or I was hit n’ run by an SUV-type thing.
shit.
but good shit happened. I’ve got a beautiful egg-sized bruised on one arm, and a nice cut under my chin where I collided with some guy whilst pogoing. And I got to laugh at the fact that most of the kids there were the most clean-cut designer stud-belt kids I’ve ever seen. I know we shouldn’t label people, but I seem to remember many of these folks being "preppies"

February 16, 2003 at 5:06 pm #91541Hey, did you ever see the movie Beyond the Valley of the Dolls? It’s directed by Russ Meyer and written by Roger Ebert (!). That’s even funnier if you see the movie. But anyway, it’s about a band of chicks (this is 1970) who go to Hollywood and try and make it big. BUT, their band is called the Carrie Nations.
And it’s funny you should be swearing off alcohol in the same thread, because Carrie Nation was a real person in the late 1800s/early 1900s who promoted temperance in a major way!
February 16, 2003 at 9:39 pm #91542Now that is funny.
but this is funnier:
Whilst I was in the pit my glasses got knocked off. I bent over to pick them up, so’s they wouldn’t get smashed, got knocked from behind and slid under a table.
wait, it’s coming back now: Was Carrie Nation the girl who would smash up pubs with a fire axe after her speaches?

Some guy came flying out from the front of the stage, landed right in front of me at a local crappypunkshow here on saturday…you could hear the conk of his head on the bottom of the bar over the guitars
He got up, shook his head then ordered a drink
Shame about the car
preppie->crappypunkstuddedbeltdesignerstyle…hey it’s a step up
I saw a guy get fitted with duct tape pants at that show, with nothing between him &…

Sometimes a drink helps me deal with shitfaced bad people
February 17, 2003 at 2:07 pm #91544yes yes, Carrie Nation is the one with the axe!
