      Hey guys :)

slowly getting my desktop backup (which is why the ftp is down) and in doing so I have loaded Redhat 8.

I am no stranger to linux as the OS on a server but as the os on my personal machine I am.

What software would some of you guys recommend?

few specific things I am looking for to make me feel more @ home….
      – A news reader than can handle YENC posts and binaries
      – Video capturing/editing software
      – TV decoder for my allinwonder card
      – good audio editing software
      – good graphic editing software
      – par file utility
      – a decent ftp client
      – a decent ftp server where I can set up group accts and such (or help in doing so)

      Anyone? :P

disc 3 has some audio mp3 programs. also search redhat.com for a ton of ftp client/server rpms. pan.0.13.0-2 will do your news reading…. i’ll ask some gurus at work about the rest and get back to you dude

What CD Burning software do you recommend? (24x8x40 burner)
would be a plus if I could still make vcd/svcd disks with it

x-CD Roast works well. it comes stock.
cdparanoia is a somewhat decent mp3 ripper

there is a command line burner:
            cdrecord
but i never got it to work.

which x are you using, gnome, kde ?
