…I didn’t really think that Catch Me if You Can deserved it’s own thread, so I figured a talk about a movie or anything really recently scene thread would be cool.
It was a fun movie, a bit long, but that’s the price for substance these days, especially with legitimately big headed directors like Steven Spilberg.
I dug the movie. Con artists always make people smile, at least when they are safely on a screen. Leo is alright, and probably did as well as anyone could have, Tom Hanks isn’t a favorite of mine (except his early days; Big, Batchlor Party, Punchline, etc.), but this profomace is not over the top, which is a line he tip toes occasionally. Christopher Walken is a star.
I love the movie theater expirence. I saw this at the dollar theatre on half price night, which is always fun.
New Malkmus made ride home perfectly loud.
hope this thread works, never tried this yet, been racking brain for first thread ideas, never expected this to be the one, but sometimes moments present themselves…
I just saw The Hunted and it was AWFUL. I can not even fathom how it got ‘Thumbs Up’ from Ebert and ‘what’s his face’. I seriously thought it was a waste of film. The fight scenes were nothing extraordinary, the plot was bare, shallow and the sound editing was sloppy.
I like Tommy Lee Jones, even in the MIB sequel, but The Hunted sucked.
I just saw Rules of Attraction and it was enjoyable. It wasn’t a classic or anything, but I’m a fan time juggling and reverse storytelling, etc. Lead a horse to water and then make him laugh when the water isn’t even water, usually blood when it’s a Bret Easton Ellis adaptation. I loved Less than Zero, but I thought American Psycho was a bit much to handle. It’s funny talking about a writer based on the movies torn form his work. A book is so much more, yet I never read his stuff.
My biggest gripe is more of a geeky tech problem with the soundtrack only being mixed in 2-channel surround sound. I’m a fan of the home theatre expirence and 5.1 makes me smile. Rules of Attraction is a new release and should be mixed accordingly.
My favorite part was a bit of conversation towards the beginning where the film major type is describing a movie that "people think is a Tarrentino film even though he just got the Exectuive Producer credit". I’m assuming it is in refrence to Killing Zoe, which was written/directed by Roger Avary, who screenplayed and directed ROA. I dig the jab at the Tarrentino worshiper crew that came to force when Pulp Fiction was the taste of the time. Heck I was and still am a Tarrentino fan, but Avary helped write Pulp Fiction, shared the Oscar and then gets swept under the rug then when he gets his own film, Zoe, and Quinten probablly helped pay for it, isn’t that what an exec. prod. does?, film buffs consider it a Tarrentino film. So I dug the jab. I like when jokes are so hidden they sometimes even miss themselves.
I miss college and theme parties for that matter, and this film is all about that maddness.

I just saw the Lakers talkin’ trash and it was disgusting.
I’m a basketball fan. I have no favorite team because everytime I pick one they end up trading my favorite players and them they draft kids from Duke, who I hate and then I can’t root for them anymore. I have no geogrphical choice, I guess I’m pulling for the sixers being in PA and all. Iverson is a warrior.
Back to the Lakers, they tick me off. Any team with 2 of the 5 best players in the league is going to donminate, but when posed wiht the fact that the Spurs beat them 4 games to zero in the regular season, they responded that maybe they’ll have to beat them 4-0 in the play-offs to even it up.
I guess it’s go spurs go, this round at least.
…alright, I changed up the topic name. Didn’t even realize there was an "I just saw" thread. Different area, but the simularity killed me. I’ll probably change it again, now that I know how to do such a thing.
I watched the lakers fall with my own eyes. I didn’t hear them lose as I watch most sporting events with the sound off and music on. I’m no tv fan, although I do have a few guilty pleasures that happen to be tv shows. I think soprts commentary is one of the worst represented jobs in the department of quality.
I hate every team left in the NBA play-offs. My little sister is a Mavs fan. She is in love with Steve Nash. So, I guess I’ll pull for them.

From reviews I read, I really didn’t expect much, but nevertheless I’m a bit disappointed now. I didn’t think it would be that lame. ok, lame is the wrong word for all that action, karate & car shredding and all of these special effects, but I couldn’t imagine beforehand how less it would impress me

Yesterday I watched Spike Jonze´s last project, YEAH RIGHT! and though I had quite a few beers I thought it was seriously one of the best things I´ve ever seen. It was UNbelievable. For insiders: The time of going down handrails is over. Mike Carroll goes up a 8or9 stair handrail!!! And needless to say. Koston takes it all in the end. It´s over!!!
and I hope Kidd will take it by the way although I don´t like Martin, but after the Kings lost I don´t really care anymore.
I’m no Jason Kidd fan, but Kenyon Martin is a monster of a player. I have some Zona ties so I dig Richard Jefferson, but Steve Kerr also is a Wildcat. Tim Duncan is too good for his own good, but dull as the wrong side of a knife. I like a flashy type player, it’s all about entertainment
The finals are fun no matter what, if you like basketball that is, however I can’t root for anyone it seems. I think the David Robinson factor will overwhelm the Nets. It is the Admirals last go around and he is not going to let a 38 year old body or some team from Jersey get in his way…
I hope it goes seven though, well a sweep would have me tv free sooner than later, summer where are you, rain rain go away…
Like I said after the kings lost I don´t really care anymore. But seven games is definitly more fun than four, no matter which way it goes.
I could say I just watched the Spurs win it all, but alas I fell asleep. A late Saturday night lead to an early Sunday that whiped me out by the 8:3? tip-off. All in all I’m glad the season is over. David Robinson got his second ring and now he rides of into the sunset much like John Elway did a few years ago. I feel bad for Uncle Timmey and any other Kings fans, this ghost knows that they had the best team this year and if C Webb wouldn’t have gone down to injury they would be celebrating. Now it’s free agents and draft picks, but for me it’s summer sun and a tvless existence, hopefully. It’s so darn hard to stay away sometimes…
I just remembered, I just watched this movie "Roger Dodger" and it sucked. I had such high hopes. I thought it seemed like a cool idea and I dig Cambell Scott but it was as thin as Elizabeth Berkley’s movie career and a waste of my time. I only rented it, but it was a new release/super hit so that’s $3.17 down the drain. After I watched it i wasn’t sure what to think, but then as days went on I realized it was horrible. If you want to watch entertaining movies about dating and meeting people in bar type situations, I’d recomend the Wilt Stillman movies; Metroplolitan, Barcalona, and the Last Days of Disco. Roger Dodger is just trash, but I may be mistaken being that all we have are opinions and when we for them on others we get in trouble…
Checked out 28 Days Later yesterday….wish I had waited 28 days & gone to the cheap theatre to see this one
I love Zombie movies, had high hopes for this one as Danny Boyle who did Trainspotting directed it….disappointed to the max
Don’t think it helped that I watched Night Of The Living Dead by George Romero last week, hard to compete with that but…. 
What happened in those 28 days, I’d like to have actually seen that versus all the crap that came later. So I’d recommend you wait 28 days & check it out on the cheap
recently watched the dvd The Experiment, based on the horrifying psychological experiment done by Stanford University. It was pretty pleasing, the ending was a bit over the top but cool all the same. Probably not the best thing to watch before I went to work

Laurel Canyon, loosely based on Joni Mitchell, with Francis McDormand as the lead character. Didn’t like the movie to much, kinda like a nite time soap. Was pleasantly surprised to hear the band recording a couple Sparklehorse songs, even more surprised when I noticed it was The Folk Implosion performing as the band
They did a couple Sparklehorse songs, Someday I Will Treat You Good & Shade & Honey. Mark Linkous has a cameo in one scene, shame he wasn’t used thru the whole film Laurel Canyon :aliensmile:
