Direct from the Cobre Verde guys!
THE FREE AND LIBERATED COBRA VERDE NEWSLETTER
In this issue:
1. New Cobra Verde album! Yes, it’s EASY LISTENING!
2. Outpouring of MASSIVE PUBLIC SUPPORT
3. LIBERATING cities in the NEW ROMAN EMPIRE; HELPING fans;
4. Introducing our new fifth member, J. Mascis, who will play guitar in our COALITION OF ROCK starting SAT. APRIL 19th in CLEVELAND, at The GROG SHOP.
5. Assorted ramblingsMotto of the day: Why keep up with the Joneses when you can drag them
down to your level?Hey Hey Hey!
People keep on asking us if the ONE AND ONLY ARTIFICIAL CV NEWSLETTER is still running.
Nope. We’ve been so swamped recording, touring, partying, agitating
for an across-the-board regime change and coloring easter eggs that we’ve become a band of fried monkeys. And somehow it just seemed like a good time to try something new. That’s why we’re unveiling the "FREE AND LIBERATED CV NEWSLETTER."
We figure if 25 people bringing down a statue in a city of 5 million
constitutes a "people’s liberation," then we can stage a MASS UPRISING
with five band members. The new name of our newsletter, of course,
refers to the fact that CV is a FREE BAND (or conversely, we feel this
need to keep on reminding ourselves we’re free because we’re afraid that
maybe we’re really living in a dark prison.)
Anyway, check out our new album, EASY LISTENING. Wayne Kramer —
yeah, that guy, the MC5 guitar god/dude — is putting it out on his L.A.-based label (http://www.muscletonerecords.com). Basically, he came to see us when we played L.A. and said, ‘You guys are so hot and bothered, you could call yourselves the MC8."
When we started recording it, we wanted to make a record that would
sound good five years from now. So far, it seems to be holding up. Just
yesterday, I spontaneous started humming one of the songs while mowing the lawn. And last night, out of the blue, Frank started whispering the melody to one of his kinkiest guitar riffs into his girlfriend’s ear.
She loved it!
Yeah, so far the response has been pretty wild. Playboy, at the
urging of HH himself, goes bonkers over it in the new issue. Same with
Playboy.com, Magnet, CMJ. It’s the top disc in this month’s FHM, which
called it something like ‘a brilliant mix’ of all kinds of great things.
Hey, and "it flies out of the speakers and places a firm foot on the
throat." Oh, and, Blender wents nuts over the fact that CV has "absolutely
no shame and just the right amount of irony" and "glitters in the
spotlight." (I’m going to have to try that tonight.)There’s more, but
we’re trying real hard to stay modest.
Anyway, the disc is trickling out and should be all over the place (in
your store, on your radio, on the U.S. gov’t’s black list) by early May
— when it’s OFFICIAL. We do have discs for sale — NOW — at http://www.cobraverde.com
Yes, the Web site has just been updated with all sorts of fun and
games, including a "Favorite Things" section that goes BEHIND THE MUSIC to let you know which one of us is fluent in LATIN. Which suffers from CLAUSTROPHOBIA and PYROMANIA. Which one used to play a SUPERHERO. Which was a childhood LITTLE DRUMMER BOY.
The site is also going to have, any day now, a list of upcoming
shows for late May and all throughout June. We are not just touring to
promote the album. We will LIBERATE cities across this NEW ROMAN EMPIRE from the DICTATORSHIP OF BAD TASTE.
Joining us on guitar for many of the shows is J. MASCIS. Yes, he’s
a snazzy guitarist and a nice guy. But he’s also fought for FREEDOM in
the trenches of his hometown of AMHERST, MA. — even engaging in
HUMANITARIAN MISSIONS. (He likes to feed the birds in the park.)
OK, TIME’S UP…ASSORTED RAMBLINGS:1. Hey, CV is playing a bloody ROCK PROM NIGHT, on Friday April 25, at the Beachland Ballroom, in Cleveland. We will not only play prom classics from years gone by, we will also have many SURPRISES!
2. Our sister site, http://www.scamcity.com has all sorts of new articles up, as well as interviews with Dolemite and Robert Altman and stories on Blaxploitation and tons of other things.
3. I’m all for protesting U.S. for policy, but please, don’t call it "Bush’s war." A real regime change would require dismantling two corrupt political machines and ousting at least 2000 apparachiks. Our plans of subversion will be revealed in the next NEWSLETTER (not kidding!) Oh, the new Chow Yun-Fat flick is so ridiculous, it makes the Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner cartoons seem like cinema verite.
4. Cobra Verde is about to start a TV studio. Yes, we’re already coming up a ton of TV show ideas that will appeal to classic and contemporary tastes. More info soon on this project on cobraverde.com. Here are some of our pitches so far: "THird Rock From the Sanford and Son" (A family of aliens opens a junkyard in COlumbus); "Musters Mash" (Vampires work the night shift in a military hospital during the Korean War.) "Or "Chico and Man from Atlantis" (Two gearheads open a bodyshop for amphibious vehicles.) More later…Take it easy and thanks for caring…
John, Ed, Frank and Mark…and J
Guys, for the record, I want to see "Third Rock From the Sanford and Son"
