Yesterday I had a revelation. Sad to say, it was not a pretty thing. I had been out riding my bike in the mountains all day with some friends. Great weather, nasty descents -in other words it was such a perfect day. But then, as we were driving home, the devil appeared. We didn’t realise it at first, but suddenly it hit us.
The playlist on the radio as we were driving home:
      Creed
      N’sick
      Nickelback
      The Calling

It had to be a sign. The devil had taken control over the airwaves. Not a pretty thing. We were scared, but more than that we were angry. When our parents were young, the devil was suspected to back such artists as Elvis, The Beatles, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix etc. They all made more or less great tunes. And now?! Fucking Creed and N’sick?!? What the hell happened to satan backing good old rock? It’s a curse I tell you.
And he’s such a clever bastard, satan that is. The dj introduced Creed, Nickelback and the Calling as grunge. For gods sake, Cobain has to be ricocheting in his coffein.
When we got home, we saw that satans curse reached further than any of us could imagine. Some music channel had a video on, with some boyband looking lads. All strutting their stuff, strumming their guitars while looking sickly young and healthy. The only problem was that the melody didn’t have any guitar sounds at all. That scared the shit out of me.

And really, this all had a point, some sort of meaning or conclusion to it. But I’m kinda too drunk to remember it right now.

Oh, and I hate Melody Club as well. And the radio’s playing Oasis.
More beer and gin now please!

And right you are. I think it’s about time someone started a movement with the sole purpose to save children(perhaps the general population) from all the detestingly bad music that they’re constantly being bombarded with by radio and television channels.
It should have a long name, that was turned into a cool word or sentence when we only used the first letter in each word.
And a decleration of principles that made the Marseille treaty look like a cheap porno mag.

I used to think this myself. Then I realized it would be a futile effort as there is too much apathy in the world, especially when it comes to good music. Some people just don’t have good taste. Others may like good stuff but don’t care enough to search it out–their apathy makes them complacent. I put both groups in the same boat. Really, all you can do is be happy knowing you are not among them.

Don’t you guys have a proper "Championship Vinyl" where you live?

No Championship Vinyl here, alot of record stores closed over the past few years around here :( the word is mp3 downloading is the cause but I don`t believe it because over 10 years ago there was stores that lasted a few years and shut and there was no file sharing back then.

Not everyone chewed you out on that thread Malc

The music on canadian radio & music channels…

Canadian content rules on our radio/television stations are killing me, not that I don’t believe in showcasing some of the great talents out there, just the choices they make are horrifying…shania twain, theory of a dead man (nickelback wanna be’s…can you imagine the pain  ) sum 41, avril lavigne over & over & over again. I swear its an attempt to make zombies of the listeners/viewers, what other reason could there be :P There are tons of great Canadian bands out there unheard by the masses…its just not right! We have some cool university stations that play tons of independent DIY stuff, but occasionally you get trapped in a situation, forced to listen or view some of the most bland, predictable, been done b4 a lot better crap. I could never have imagined anyone finding appealing :!:

In one of the better record stores here, there was a strange competition between sounds recently. In the back, where they actually have some pretty pleasing stuff of all kinds, they were playing Radio Birdman. At the front, where you pay, they have all the muchmusic compilations & all the manufactured sounds that I hate, they were playing creed….my head almost exploded from the shock & horror

Wow, listen to people try to be Nickleback, who tries to be Creed, who’s trying to be Pearl Jam. cray-zee

In response to the "save our youth" movement…

Here in Columbus, on CD101 (an "alterantive" local radio station), they do something really cool. Every Sunday night they have a two hour exposure block of unknown artists. It’s a spectacular array of new bands, lesser known artists, local stuff, and underground music, that has yet and may never, reach the listening ear of the general public. I have been exposed to a plethora of never b4 heard music, and would liken it to the musical awakening I experienced within our group on Audiogalaxy. They are also receptive to caller’s suggestions on other bands that are as of yet, unheard of.

Sometimes, after concerts in the Columbus area, they will replay bits of that evening’s show for all the people who couldn’t make it or would like to see what that band is about but didn’t want to spend the money.

This is also the only time I have ever heard DinoJr. played on the radio…2x after seperate DinoJr. shows and I’ve heard FEEL THE PAIN aired 2x.

I wish more radio stations would do the same! 8)

Yeah I agree;the only radio stations around here that play lesser known stuff is the college station(which does`nt have alot of wattage so you can`t hear it very far outside of the city)and CBC radio 2(Canada`s national station, they play mostly classical music and some jazz but have some good underground rock shows like Brave New Waves, that also play indie hip hop and electronica and other assorted weirdness  I discovered alot of great bands from that show from their profile of artists like Eleventh Dream Day,Mountain Goats,Sleater Kinney,Low,Versus,Arab Strap, etc. and interviews with Slim Moon of Kill Rock Stars Records,Ian MacKaye of Fugazi, etc.)

…I was about to go insane listening to all that cheezy crap like that remake of Don "I’ll have your jugular for writing such a crappy song" Juan, and any crappy tune that’s molded and moldy from ending in an upper third, or whatever. The "I’ll save my ass by ending it in an upper third" type of crappy tune…

Dutch radio is crap, mixing the bad (Nickelback) with the downright ugly (Dutch Nickelback clones Kane) while adding some terrible Dutch language bands (*Blof, van Dik Hout etc. etc.) as a "bonus" :slap: , that’s the reason why I make my own mix-cd’s (see the My Mix forum), so I can put on some decent music the moment my beloved colleagues leve the office…..

ps. there are some decent to excellent Belgian radiostations, honarable mention must go to Belgiums’s Radio One, and their show Cucamonga: from the playlist of their latest show: Radiohead, Sandy Dillon, Sigur Rós, Earlimart, Serart, Nina Nastasia, Susheela Raman en Andre Afram Asmar, an exclusive live session with Steve Wynn, and an exclusive interview with Stuart Staples from the Tindersticks and songs from their new album. 8)

i hate too many bands to name, but i have one response to when robert said "cobain must be ricocheting in his coffin"……. uh, i know this may be useless trivia, but cobain was cremated and had his ashes dropped in a stream, if i remember correctly…. as for radio stations, i actually have a decent one near me that plays local/unknown artists from the north carolina/virginia area.. there is actually a pretty large music scene in my good ol town of danville, virginia, but most of the bands suck.. and the most popular "rock" band that actually is getting a record deal is a rap/metal band that SUCKS. cuss them out at their message board at http://www.timidband.com . anyeay, i’ve heard a couple bands on the local station that brush shoulders with the skill of Mr. Mascis or even the pixies :!: if only the stupid DJ would announce their names….
