So let’s say I was interested in conducting an experiment on spam, and how I was interested in testing certain variables.
Say I wanted to see how long it took to recieve my first SPAM after opening an account…
And I wanted to measure how SPAM amounts increased in an exponential manner after the account was opened…
Or I wanted to see just how many mailing lists I could get myself on while doing very little of the work to spread the address myself…
Or I was curious to measure the types of SPAM I would get after letting my address get out…What would be the best ways to advertise my exprimental e-mail account to as many SPAMMERS as possible?
September 22, 2003 at 2:41 pm #96203my bet would have to be to sign up on a shady mailing list.
September 22, 2003 at 3:53 pm #96204porn…….lots of porn…….
September 22, 2003 at 5:11 pm #96205Shady mailing lists are a definite yes for the spam flood you’re looking for…even not so shady ones sell off your info :slap:
Putting your email address out there on a BB will also get you hooked, robots trolling away will find it…..

I have an email address specifically for signing up for lists, you wouldn’t believe the quality & amount of spam I receive there….fills up in no time!

Especially those where you only need to supply an e-mail to get "free" access… Sign up for one, then sit back, and enjoy the SPAM ride..
and you too could see how you can both increase your cup size and your penile girth.Carl.

September 22, 2003 at 6:44 pm #96208My internet provider offers a SpamFilter for free, works very fine, on average 1 spam-mail per day is getting through (and that is getting less as well). The spam-mail is stored in a seperate mailbox for a week, so you can check if there were ‘serious’ mails accidentally considered as spam (until now that has never happened….)
September 23, 2003 at 12:38 pm #96209whatever I did, I did a good job with my FreakScene.net email account
…the account is bursting with spam, I have to delete dozens of emails daily.
First thing I did to get that far was, I didn’t uncheck the friendly offer to get interesting email-informations when I started the account, but during the last few months, the amount of spam increased significantly. I guess, my email-address has been sold to many other spam providers, because the new spam still addesses me with the original name which I submitted when I opened the account in 2000, although I changed these data in 2001.
so, if you like to receive a maximum of spam, just always agree to get those friendly offers, then the amount will increase exponentially

October 12, 2003 at 5:19 pm #96211I just worked a bit against the spam avanlanche which cluttered my email account lately:
I unsubscribed from lots of the "services" I found me to be registered (I filled in the forms of the links on the bottom of dozens of spam-emails)
I’m not really convinced if this works, we’ll see.
…but some of the mailing lists reacted to the second attempt to unsubscribe with the message "sorry, no such email found in our database", so there might be hope
I also found this site: UnsubscribeNet. They promise to block lots of the spam that’s coming in…
sounds promising? yeah, I know I’m naive
October 12, 2003 at 6:34 pm #96212My Freakscene account is so bad that I don’t use it anymore. It fills up in about 2 days… Part of it is that the spam filtering is pathetic on everyone.net (our email provider).
As, for unsubscribing, Flying Cloud, you’re probably making things worse. A lot of spammers use the unsubscibe link to varify that they’ve hit a live address.

They are the lowest form of humanity! :slap:
October 13, 2003 at 1:39 pm #96213yeah, I also heard that things could get worse with unsubscribing, but I thought I wouldn’t see the difference between now and worse, so I decided to give it a try

most of them said, they’ll need some days to put me off their lists …I’m curious if any of my measurements will show results (of any kind)
December 3, 2003 at 8:23 pm #96214January 23, 2004 at 1:11 pm #96215Checked my freakscene account today, last time was mid november, 12 pages of junk! So I guess the freakscene account would be a good one for your experiment kurticus-
January 23, 2004 at 1:21 pm #96216The real question is has anybody actually bought anything from SPAM or an annoying pop-up? There has to be people out there that actually read their SPAM mail and say… "Gee I guess I could use some free samples of herbal viagra, and a free trial at "Freaky fingerless farm teens.com" or spam wouldn’t exist. Who are these people who respond to this crap?!?!
