Those fires on the west coast sound absolutely frightening! Homes destroyed, winds making the outbreaks of fire very hard to predict…YIKES

Hope everyone out there keeps themself safe

They had to move the football game tonite from San Diego to Arizona d/t all the smoke
Hope a certain someone who lives close to that stadium is safe

October 27, 2003 at 6:46 pm #96771It’s been a long two days here in San Diego! I’m fine, thanks, and my place is fine too. My parents were evacuated as was the entire community in which I grew up, and a number of houses about a half a mile from my parents house burned down. There’s a big canyon-park up there and that is all black now. A fire like this is totally unprecedented in this city. I’m quite familiar with much of the area in the city limits that burned–it’s kind of surreal. The skies are just full of smoke and ash has been falling for two days now. Fortunately though, it all seems to be dying down (the fire). And the good part was that I didn’t have to go work today!

October 30, 2003 at 2:39 pm #96774hey BR,
Very Happy to see you are O.K… We went up to Lake Arrowhead this past weekend with a bunch of friends (total of 7 people) to my parents cabin.. The fire heated the two main power transmission power lines by 6:00 PM, so we had no access to TV. The radio we brought was on a music station in the Inland Empire. At 11:15 PM or so, we received a call from my dad informing me of a mandatory evacuation ordered for the Lake Arrowhead/Blue Jay area.
Well, we left by 12:15 AM, and it took almost 4 hours to get home, when it usually takes two. The people who were driving down the hill were VERY patient, and the 2 places where we stopped, the people were very firendly. It was a very orderly evacuation.
Needless to say, I have been glued to the TV seeing where this fire goes. So far, it appears to be fine. They (TV News) have not shown any activity on the west side of the lake. Most of the devastation in the Lake Arrowhead has been on the east side of the lake, in the community of Cedar Glen, which lost 300+ homes last night.

Even with all the highs and lows I have felt this week, I can NOT imagine what it is like to lose something in the fire, and to those who have lost their homes in these fires. I feel so sorry for all of those, and offer my sincerest sympathies.
Carl.
October 31, 2003 at 2:33 pm #96775Close call Carl, glad you guys made it out safely

Horrifying destruction, almost 800,000 acres destroyed, they think arsonists are responsible for some of the fires…
