• Hopefully the members of Dramarama took notes later that night while watching fellow ’90s rocker J. Mascis do an acoustic set on the University of Texas campus. The former Dinosaur Jr. singer/guitarist, whose long salt-and-pepper hair and glasses project the aura of a renegade college professor, was absolutely mind-blowing.

Mascis flipped his guitar between acoustic and electrified settings, so every song was a crazy up and down ride, punctuated by his unbelievably-underrated playing and signature baritone growl. One of the Dramarama guys did earn some points for joining my friend and me to gleefully dissect two drunk college kids practically blocking the aisle in front of us, playing tonsil-hockey like they were at a Lionel Richie show.
