Quote:J Mascis and the Fog featuring Dave Schools and Kyle Spence.A quick search revealed that Kyle Spence played drums with a band called Harvey Milk
and on David Barbe’s (ex Sugar) solo album
(have that somewhere in my vaults….)April 5, 2004 at 3:52 pm #101096FYI: the 40 Watt is in ATHENS, not Atlanta. sorry.
April 5, 2004 at 4:22 pm #101097wow! great news! J goes electric again
It will be loud!

would be so interesting how it will work out with the new guys, and, of course we all want to know if there will be more shows.

J fans in Athens are really lucky this year

(…thanks for the hint, Barton, the city is decent now in the first post
)April 5, 2004 at 6:29 pm #101098Okay, guys, I am having a little bit of trouble keeping my lent promise not to come here. My husband did not give up freak scene for lent so I get all of the news. I have to get through just this week .
I just wanted to say, Kyle Spence is the drummer for the Tom Collins Band, I just saw him for the first time in January when they opened for J. I turned to a group of friends from Atlanta and said "That guy is great, what a drummer, I mean how old is he 17" and friend said I think he is mid 20’s. Okay, this kid looks so highschool, but plays so wild, a very different drummer.I need to go do some penitence now, and after lent I have a few things to say to Mr. Does this mean the honeymoon is over. You know what I mean. Stefka

There are some more people having that problem, the post appears correctly on FS, but because of that error message people try to post their message again, resulting in a couple of double posts…
April 5, 2004 at 8:01 pm #101101A question for Annastefka, do you think it would be possible for you to convince the guy who taped the J solo show in athens to tape this show as well? + share it with us? At sharingthegroove.org.
also, I love the news about the fog being alive and kicking again!!!
April 5, 2004 at 8:21 pm #101102thanks for the info on kyle spence. i like the tom collins. but Dave Schools? certainly not the bass player for widespread panic?
hope i can make the show either way

April 6, 2004 at 1:31 pm #101104Lucky so & so’s in Athens

Hope someone tapes & shares it, fingers crossed more US shows come up…including the midwest
April 6, 2004 at 4:18 pm #101105great news for athens fans … annastefka you’ll have to tell us all about it
April 9, 2004 at 10:26 am #101106Yes, I agree with Anna that Kyle Spence is an amazing drummer. He looks young but I think he is actually early 30s or something. His style is very reminiscent of Bonham’s style…extremely talented. If you have not heard The Tom Collins, check it out.
As for the person that was questioning the appearance of Dave Schools, I have to say that I think it will be a gret fit. Dave is an amazing bassist and his style very much fits the bill in my opinion. If you don’t like Widespread Panic for whatever reason, check out the gazillion other projects he has partaken in over the years. I challenge anyone to tell me that man can’t play bass;)
Anyway, no worries, tapes will be ran of this show and will be distributed the same way the January solo show was, via Sharing the Groove bit torrent.
I can’t wait! We sure are lucky to get two shows in the span of 4 months…
April 14, 2004 at 3:08 pm #101107Wow, I am in heaven with all of this talk about Dave and J. For any of you sceptics out there, take a listen to brute, acetate, stockholm syndrome or any of dave’s projects. He is the one that got Panic to begin covering Sometimes (firehose) and mny of the ramones tumes they have done. If you really want a look at schools check out the dvd The Earth Will Swallow You by the hanson brothers. It has some great parts with Vic and the boys laying down tracks and having a great time. Can’t wait for the Shows.
