Going from Flicker to the 40 Watt is quite a shock to the system and Sunshine Fix is pumping out Beatles-esque rock at a solid volume with a mid-set poppy reprieve. The Fix is adequate and interesting, but not really exciting. J Mascis & The Fog: I was told to expect loud and I’m getting it, but what else should I expect from the former leader of Dinosaur Jr.? What came next was a string of amazing guitar solos (which at some point ceased to be amazing), Motörhead power drumming from Kyle Spence (The Tom Collins), precision bass courtesy of Dave Schools (Widespread Panic, Acetate) and those interesting pre-grunge nasal vocals. For someone who has been around the block (on a global scale) as long as Mascis, I want either nostalgia or originality. Instead, I get a rock/ metal guitar lover’s ultimate wet dream rock show. Mascis is preaching to the converted, but failing to save my soul.

This guy loved Cosmic Charlie, a Grateful Dead cover band, they had two drummers, he liked that!Ummm, as a Christian and a J fan, I thought you should see what Gordon Lamb wrote before the show. Gordon it seems, has taken care of saving his soul. Here is what he had to say:
Vacation Be Damned. This Man Won’t Rest: Although his main band, Widespread Panic, has official declared 2004 to be their year off, member Dave Schools refuses to just relax. He has teamed up with Athens musician Kyle Spence of The Tom Collins to form the current incarnation of The Fog. The band will perform as the backup band for former Dinosaur Jr. moaner J Mascis when he brings his droopy mug to Athens on Wednesday, April 28. This show will rock absolutely and anyone who digs rock that doesn’t need to always be a fashion statement will be there. The rest of you can watch VH1 for all I care. Thanks for the better link.I just have to say if you read this guys whole review (Cold beer, warm cigarettes) please y’all take note, When writing about Cosmic Charlie, he says he loved the drum solo with the TWO DRUMMERS and the FIRE TWIRLERS, ( 3 half dressed guys dancing with fire sticks ).
This is a funny little bit of a review from a Duhks show from Ear Poison.
The crowd loved them (more accurately, was somehow related to them) and they’re a talented lot. If they’d stick to the bluegrass and roots music, they’d be all set. OH, AND DITCH THE DRUM SOLOS — THE ONLY THING WORSE THAN AN AMPLIFIED DRUM SOLO IS AN ACOUSTIC ONE.When it comes to reviewers, I guess it is "to each his own"
