okay, i’m hoping someone out there can answer at least one
      of these…

      1. Was Martin + Me all from one show or from multiple shows? and does anyone have any info about which one(s)?

      2. Where and when are the live versions of "Quest" and "Kracked" from the Quest EP from? Also, does anyone have dates, etc. for the Goodier sessions on that one?

      3. Any info on "Better Than Gone" or "A Little Ethnic Song" would be appreciated, I think they might be 2 of the only Dino songs I know nothing about.

      4. I’m confused about the Letterman shows, most places say "The Wagon" performance was in 1991, but when you look up Dinosaur Jr. on http://www.tvtome.com I get only 1992, 1993 and 1994 dates, I’m assuming they’re "The Wagon," "Out There," and "Feel the Pain," respectively? check out my site for the exact dates if you don’t feel like going there.

      5. What is the date and location of the Jon Stewart Show performance? I know they did "Grab It" and "Sludgefeast" but I have no other info from it.

      6. I also need info about the "Throw Down" 7" that came with early releases of Bug, is it different from Fossils? and where did "Throw Down" on either one come from? The "I’ve Been Waiting For You" page on Loobicore.com doesn’t mention "Throw Down" in the same session as "Chunks" but the info on Fossils pretty much states they’re from the same session…

      7. Also, could people check out places on my site that have "?"s I need a lot of info on dates and songs played and such, especially from earlier boots where i’m getting mixed info on songs played.

thanks a lot for your time!

      appreciate any info or feedback

hey garrrr, it will take some researches to contribute my 2 cents to the one or other question. But I’ll come back to it with some more info later…

The one question I know we’ve talked about here not too long ago is question #6 about the "Throw Down" single: THROW DOWN 7"
I hope the info you’re looking for is included there :)

And I surely second the call about checking out the concert chronology site again! It has grown so much during the last weeks.
I know, a site like that can’t ever be really complete, but it has moved some big steps towards that, it now contains nearly all shows Dino/J have ever played, many of them with setlists :D
so, if you’ve been at a show, check that site maybe you can add things there :!:

I think the live versions of Quest and Kracked from the Quest ep was recorded at Lolapalozza.

I’m not sure if Quest (live) and Kracked (live) were recorded at Lollapalooza or not. Reason being is that both tracks were on the "Quest" cd and the "Goin Home Spin it for Lollapalooza ’93!" promo disc. These two disc came out in 1993. They same year they played Lolla. I would assume that the "Spin if for Lolla" promo would be to promote their appearance on Lollapalooza that year. Thus would have been released before Lolla.

"Better than Gone" http://keeblin.com/detailsdinojr.php?TitleID=17″>http://keeblin.com/detailsdinojr.php?TitleID=17 J does not sing on this track. I believe it is Don Fleming. By looking at the back of the record it looks like the track is credited to Fleming. The back of the record has the instruments credited (for both songs I assume) J Mascis:guitar, vocal; Murph right drum, Jay Spiegel left drum, Don Fleming guitar vocal. The version of the wagon on this 7" is a different recording than the one that got released on Green Mind and was released as the other single version of The Wagon.

"A Little Ethnic Song" http://keeblin.com/detailsmascis.php?TitleID=7″>http://keeblin.com/detailsmascis.php?TitleID=7 There are no vocals this track. I don’t hear any drums or bass either. It sounds like there is maybe 3 guitars tracks playing on this song. It’s somewhat slow.

              yo.

I’m 99% sure that Quest(live) and Kracked(live) are from the same show. the show is found on the bootleg ‘Keep the Freakscene’.

I’m not sure if they have used the bootlegs master tape and mixed/mastered the tape, but that’s possible.

do you have the "Keep the Freak Scene" CD?
i don’t have "Kracked" listed as being played on that date,
plus if they were on the Lollapalooza CD wouldn’t that have been
released before that show was played?

also, what is "Strange Feelings" on the "Keep the Freak Scene" CD?

anyone have any information on the song "Noon at Dawn"?
or that bootleg that has "Hickory Wind" at the beginning and
a bunch of live stuff afterwards?
                is that 120 minutes performance?
i need more info on 120 mins. show

thanks a lot for the replies

go to http://www.freesofree.net. the song kracked is there on the cd, and freakscene follows right after on the same track.

i had the "Keep the Freak Scene" info under Irwindale 08/93
                    instead of 02/26/93…

sorry about the mix-up, it has been fixed and thanks for the info!

I have the Noon at Dawn on a 7 inch with Get Me and something else on it, I think Quest. The Get Me me was the one where he says the light the light at the beginning. They were BBC sessions. Mike Johnson sings. and Little Ethnic song was on the guitarrorists cd and the alien workshop video

well this is the info i have on the session:

                        -11/24/92 London, England Peel Sessions
                        other bands: none

SETLIST: Get Me / Noon at Dawn / Hide / Keeblin’

Release Info: "In Session" CD: Get Me and Keeblin’

yeah, i’ve been confused as to what Noon at Dawn, Strange Feelings, and Hickory Wind are, like who wrote them, who sings them.

so I’m assuming that "Eclipse" that they played a few times in 1997
is the same song from Mike Johnson’s Solo album.

so "Noon at Dawn" is a Mike Johnson song then?
is it from one of his solo albums?
i have "Where Am I?" and "Year of Mondays" but only "Eclipse"
                        is on them.

i’d love to hear "Noon at Dawn," a live "Eclipse," "Hide" from that session and "Better Than Gone"

Any info on the song "Carl"?
                        i’ve heard it and it’s just a cool drum solo, i’m assuming it’s J
is it from any kind of Peel or Goodier session or anything?

thanks a lot for all the info people have sent me so far, i appreciate it!

Strange Feelings is actually Raisans. It’s just mislabeled on the bootleg.

Hickory Wind is Graham Parsons/Byrds song.

Carl is from the CD Flyin Traps

As for Noon at Dawn. I have no idea. I kind of wonder if it is just mislabeled like Raisans because the only proof I have seen of this song on a bootleg. If Noon at Dawn is on a Get Me single I would love to see. I’ve never read about it being released as part of the Get Me single. My Get Me single has Hot Burrito #2 on it, not Noon at Dawn

If you’re wondering about songs a great place to look is http://www.allmusic.com”>http://www.allmusic.com . It is a great site to search for songs and find out what they were released on and who wrote it. Although it is a great place to search for songs. It is not completely comprehensive because it misses some singles (and thus b-sides) but it is a nice place to check out.

As for the tracks on the Freakin Live boot(the same cd that has Hickory Wind) some of those tracks are from (I believe) MTV Europe and not 120 Minutes. The video’s are up at http://www.freesofree.net”>http://www.freesofree.net I’m 100% sure that Thumb and a couple others are from that MTV performance

oh, that kind of sucks, i was hoping "Strange Feelings"
was a cool new Dino song I’ve never heard. oh well
at least "Raisans" is a kick ass song, so it’s ok

i’m just glad a lot of this stuff is getting cleared up for me

when i can think of some more questions or confusing things I’ll ask them…

i wonder why "Hickory Wind" was never released?
                            it’s a good song.

does anyone know if / if not, then why some songs like "Muck,"
"How’d You Pin That One on Me," "On the Way," "I Ain’t Sayin’"
and like half of Without a Sound and Hand It Over weren’t played
live, or at least on any sets i’ve gotten so far?
they’re great songs, especially "Muck" and don’t seem like
they’d be too hard for the guy who wrote them to play,
songs like "Gettin’ Rough" and "Can’t I Take This on"
are obvious because they’re banjo (or is it a ukelele?)

well i must sign off for now, it’s getting late…

                            thanks a lot

Yes, Freakin live is the Mtv live recording. they showed Thumb, Raisans and Get Me.

I’m not sure where Get me , Keeblin, and Hickory Wind acoustic versions from Freakin Live are recorded.

I remember seing J alone with his guitar on Mtv once. This was around 93-94. I don’t know what he played, cause they only showed a brief clip. The clip of J was in a sequence where Mtv showed all artists who had played Mtv Unplugged.

J did a song with Tony Bennet that wasn’t showed on Mtv.
And he did a song with Mark Langean and Mike johnson.

It is possible J did acoustic songs on Mtv around 93-94, but I haven’t heard it, just seen a brief clip.

Noon at Dawn is a Dino song with Mike singing not a solo song. The Tony Bennet thing never haired and wasn’t on the cd. They have played a lot of songs from all the albums but some are just more popular. They didn’t play a lot of songs from Green Mind cause murph couldn’t play the funkier ones. With George they did do puke and cry and another one I think. By the time Hand It Over came out there were so many songs. He normally plays like 5 from a new album and a couple from each previous album. Heck with Dave Skools he played a song from every album except the first album.

I don’t think Murph not could have learned playing Puke and Cry and the rest of the Green Mind songs. I think the reason why they didn’t play these songs live is that Murph didn’t play them on the Green mind recording. therefor they would have had to practise alot more. Maybe Murph didn’t have a drumset at home, so it would take a lot of time and effort if they had to wait for Murph to learn more new songs..
                                  :?:   :D
