formula one in central london – tonight 8) :D

Formula 1 comes to Regent Street!

Eddie Jordan and friends launching the event in Regent Street. Central London will grind to a halt on Tuesday as F1 cars parade through the West End

Anybody shopping on Regent Street on Tuesday could be in for the shock of their lives as London’s usual rush-hour traffic makes way for Formula One cars!

From 6pm until 8pm, eight Formula One teams including BMW Williams, Ferrari, McLaren, Toyota, BAR, Jordan, Jaguar and Minardi will parade through the West End.

      THE ROUTE

The cars will be run from a pits area at Waterloo Place on a specially designed street circuit up Lower Regent Street to Piccadilly Circus, up Regent Street into Great Marlborough Street, left into Argyll Street, left at Little Argyll Street and then left back down Regent Street to Waterloo Place.

Taking part in the event, which is being held just three days before the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, will be BMW Williams driver Juan Pablo Montoya, McLaren’s David Coulthard, BAR driver and current F1 title contender Jenson Button and former F1 world champion, Nigel Mansell.

It will be the first time Mansell, who will drive for Jordan, has sat in an F1 car since his retirement in 1995 and team owner Eddie Jordan is delighted to see him taking part.

"This event is all about F1 giving something back to the fans. Nigel was undoubtedly the fans’ favourite."

Mansell said: "I think what London is doing is very special for the British Grand Prix.

"When I got the phone call from Eddie asking me if I would do this, it seemed the right thing to do.

"I can’t wait to take part in the Regent Street event, this should be great for the fans.

we had the same kind of event last year in Hamburg, right outside my door through the red light quarter here. but I had to work that day and missed most of it. the engine noises I heard were impressing, though
