any program to show where system resources are going?

      Sorry, don’t know if that is the correct way to put that, but I was just wondering if there were any programs that would show what was taking up bandwidth/system resources.

      The reason I’m asking is cause I’m on a dial-up connection, and am trying to download quicksand off freesofree at the moment, and started off at 1.95 kb/sec… WHOO-HOO! :roll:

      I then closed winamp and quicktime, which were in the system tray, not even on, and am now up to 2.55 and climbing.

      But when I wipe and reinstall xp, and before I reinstall the various programs I like and generally muck around on my computer, I can download at 4.95 +/-, which is like lightning compared to 1 or 2 kb/s.

      Any suggestions? thx. :)

        for system resources, you could look at task manager.

        for bandwidth, you could run netstat -a from a command prompt to see what connections are established.

        you could also look in your system tray (by the clock) to see if any programs are running that could possibly be using your bandwidth.

          thanks for the info, I’ll have to check that out when I have the time.

          The task manager is good, but not for novices like me. I want to see what programs are doing stuff, not just al;sdfjk.exe :lol:

            if you want to know everything that is going on in real-time on your computer, google up NTFILMON.EXE
