I’m right back from my Berlin trip, together with Finland’s biggest Dino fan/ board member Aatos :)

here’s the setlist, as far as I got it together.
Leah, you’ve got a printed one, please correct it eventually!

      In A Jar
      Gargoyle
      The Lung
      Bulbs Of Passion
      Tarpit
      Raisans
      Little Fury Things
      Forget The Swan
      Kracked
      Sludgefeast
      Budge
      Repulsion
      Freakscene

      Just Like Heaven
      Chunks
      Does It Float

Like Lou mentioned between two songs, there was a lot of slamdancing in the second half of the show. Lou said, he hasn’t seen slamdancing for 15 years, and that it was awful, but also great. well, I was between those slamdancers & the stage, and got the one or other bruise  harmless though …and that’s the risk of 1st row, I know.

J said that he has a lot of cousins in Berlin (because his wife Luisa is from Berlin), and he dedicated Freakscene to Mum & Dad Virus (Luisa’s parents)

I didn’t recognize Chunks, until I saw it on the setlist. surprising, they didn’t play this song so far on the reunion-tour.

the hall "Postbahnhof" was smaller than the Forum in London, and without a barrier between crowd & stage. the hall was full with several hundreds of fans (it’s an old postsorting hall next to the railstation Ostbahnhof in the formerly socialistic part of Berlin)
the sound of the instruments in front was loud & clear, but the vocals were a bit fuzzy. but hey, no reason to complain, band and crowd were really into it and it was a great event, anyway :D

I saw the openers Modey Lemon for the second time, and start to get into their intense, feverish raw & powerful sound, think I’ll get their new album "the curious city"

It was the first Dinosaur Jr/J Mascis concert I’ve seen and it was great, way better than I anticipated. They played their songs really good and added great improvisations here and there, especially in Kracked.
As Flying Cloud already said, the vocals didn’t reach the audience right by the stage. I think it was because of the big amplifiers that were headed to the middle of the hall. The stage/first line was kind of behind the amplifiers.

The crowd was quite tough and so was I(okay, that sounded stupid :D)… I hit the stage quite many times because of the masses. Quite many people jumped up and down the stage (One freakscene member included..). Someone even tried to steal something from the stage, drumsticks or something…

Eventually the show was over and the roadies gave some treasures to the fans. I was lucky to get a broken drumstick and a J MASCIS PIC!! :D I’m not sure if I’m going to use that pic because I don’t want the bat-logo and J Mascis print to get off.
Unfortunately I didn’t get a pic of J Mascis, despite the great chance I had before the show. I saw J walking around not in a hurry, but what can you do when you see your greatest guitarhero in the real world for first time. Go and get your camera? Didn’t come to my mind… :D

I won’t forget that concert, ever!

The Berlin-trip was also great! :D

sounds like a great show + a great trip for you guys … i’m glad it worked out so well … :D

hey Aatos, good that you’re in Germany these days and you had the chance to catch that show. now that you say it, I also got one of these extremely torn and broken drumsticks. looking on them one can see the power they were used with :D

and Leah, hope that the pics you took turned out fine …and that we might have the chance to see them, sooner or later :P :D was nice to meet you guys there! :) too funny that we were in the same plane to London w/o talking.

sorry for the late reply but a lot of work layed down when I came back from Berlin.

                At first the setlist:

                In A Jar
                No Bones
                Bulbs Of Passion
                Tarpit
                Raisans
                Gargoyle
                Little Fury Things
                Forget The Swan
                Kracked
                Sludgefeast
                Budge
                Repulsion
                Freak Scene

                Just Like Heaven
                Chunks
                Does It Float

Berlin was such a fantastic show that I had to express my feelings at the first row, which I counldn’t avoid and I hope I did not bother anyone to hard. In a classical concert I’m usually quiet and calm but Dinosaur Jr are so powerful that can’t hide my emotions. The pics I made are ready tomorrow (I hope so )and then I will upload them. It was nice to meet you guys there too. Did you go to that aftershow party by Modey Lemon? I hope you had a nice stay in Berlin Aatos and we will see us all again by a J Mascis & The Fog or related gig.

                Bye
                Leah

hey Leah, thanks for the setlist! :D

No Bones, yeah! I was always thinking they did another Bug song quite at the beginning, so No Bones as second song makes sense.
But Gargoyle was somewhat earlier in the set, I’m quite sure it was the 3rd song, and Little Fury Things came right after Raisans.

And I swear they played the Lung as the 4th song, because I was trying to read J’s lips because of the breathes/breeds question (still not sure, but I’m tending to "breeds" now)

so this shows that the band doesn’t always keep to the printed setlists :?

yeah, we were at the Modey Lemon aftershow party at the Mudd Club. the Mudd Club turned out to be a quite nice club, although there weren’t many people except of the band. I was too distracted by the Dino show & too tired to have a chat with the band, though.

…any J related gig would be cool to meet again w/ you guys :)

Lungs breathe. If a lung is collapsed, it can no longer breathe. But since there’s no way to collapse the lung, it still, therefore, is able to breathe the doubt in everyone.

I can’t believe this is still in question.

I’ve never doubted. It’s definitely "breathes."

just for the records: Leah typed out the printed setlist, but I’m quite very sure that the real set differed a bit from it:

                            In A Jar
                            No Bones
                            Gargoyle
                            The Lung
                            Bulbs Of Passion
                            Tarpit
                            Raisans
                            Little Fury Things
                            Forget The Swan
                            Kracked/Sludgefeast
                            Budge
                            Repulsion
                            Freakscene

                            Just Like Heaven
                            Chunks
                            Does It Float

[breeds, breathes, …you guys have to go to the next available show to try and read J’s lips  ]

too bad the pics from London down from the gallery didn’t come out good.
