I’m thinking about throwing a P-90 into my Epiphone les paul and taking out one humbucker. I’m worried that installation is gonna be a rip off because i don’t have any connections. You guys think i should still go for it? Any Advice? :-

A P90 and a humbucker…I’m not sure if that would work, seeing as the impedences probably won’t match. You might be able to do it, but I’m not the person to ask.

Now switching both pickups for P90s I could help you with…

yeah, you could do it…actually without routing that much (if any depending on the P90). It would be like having a single coil and a humbucker…I have a Fat Tele that sounds great, (humbucker in the neck, single in the bridge). Get a cheap P90 from like Mighty Mite (like $20) and hook it up..see if you like it, if not…put your other pickup back in and sell the P90 for $20 and youll know.

Impedence matching doesn’t really come into play as far as pickups are concerned. As long as you can physically fit the thing on the guitar and wire it up correctly, it’ll work. Just be aware that different pickup types have different output levels (humbuckers are hotter than single-coil, etc.).

Cool, I’ll have to try doing a single coil/humbucker guitar sometime.

Cheap P90 eh? will that still preform well? Or are you saying that i should put it in to see how it is, and then go for the more expensive ones.

Seymour Duncan makes a P90 that is the same size as a humbucker. Check it out…

That way you don’t have to worry about size issues… it’s just a simple drop-in replacement. :)

as far as size goes, the P90 is (of course) thinner and longer than a humbucker, but will fit in your humbucker routing, just not the mounting ring. You can find P90 mounting rings…not sure where, never needed one, but I have seen them for sale somewhere…any one know where?
As for Mighty Mite, I’m not really sure how they sound, never had a P90 from them. I had a humbucker ($20 deal) and it had a kind of Silverchair-ish sound. Mighty Mite may be what you’re looking for, or maybe not but who’s to say that you’ll like that $200 P90 that "Best Pickup Company Ever" makes? It’s hard to say, and impossible for me to tell you what you’re going to like. Again, try one out (without routing your body) if you dont like it, throw it on Ebay, you may even get more than you paid for it.

you’ll need new pots and caps. and maybe some routing mainly depending on the p-90 id suggest a jazzmaster neck soap bar, no routing a fat sound, very nice sounding pickup.and i wouldn’t think you would have to change tha pots than. although im not sure.
