Interview with Murph, not a whole lot of new stuff, although, that J is more like a guru deal… ;D

      DINOSAUR JR by Steve Bell

When bassist Lou Barlow was ejected from Dinosaur Jr in 1989, it not only closed the chapter on one of the most dysfunctional band line-ups ever to grace a stage, it triggered one of the most acrimonious and long-lasting feuds in rock history.

At that point Dinosaur Jr (Barlow, guitar/vocalist J Mascis and drummer Murph) had released three increasingly fantastic rock albums (Dinosaur, You’re Living All Over Me and Bug) but their legendary communication problems and burgeoning internal friction (especially between Barlow and Mascis) made a split inevitable.

Mascis and Murph told Barlow that they were breaking the band up, while in reality they were busy grooming a new bassist for an impending Australian tour. Barlow was furious when he discovered the deception and spent the next decade channeling his rage into various projects like Sebadoh and Folk Implosion, while Dinosaur Jr continued with various line-ups before stumbling to a halt in 1997.

They say that time heals all wounds, and with re-mastered versions of those first three records being re-released last year, the unthinkable finally happened and the original Dinosaur Jr re-united.

“It’s been going really well, probably better than any of us expected,â€
