I’ve been a Dino/J fan since ’87 or ’88 when I walked into a party baked as one can be and heard kracked/sludge/lung/raisans/tarpit/jar and everything changed musically for me. I had to know who this band was as I had never heard anything like it before in my entire life. You see, in my opinion the j/lou/murph Dinosaur were light years ahead of their time. I was fortunate enough to get to see Dino quite a few times throught the 90’s with Mike on bass because my brother caught a gig with Waner/Reprise as a publicist in the late 80’s (and is still there to this day). While I love the ‘Warner Years’ Dinosaur Jr. and all of J’s stuff, it never really captured the feel of the first three records. With the way J and Lou split I thought I would never get to see Dinosaur play live but have to basically see J solo under the Dinosaur name. I think when J dropped the Dinosaur name and recorded under J and the Fog, it was a giant step in a lot of ways for him. I guess my point is that I saw the ‘reunion tour’ show in Vegas last August and was completely blown away. This is not a reunion tour whatsoever but the next chapter for a band that probably would have self destructed had they continued together way back when. When Lou was doing the band introductions before the encore he introduced J as the ‘Fucking Master’ at which point I got this feeling that all the things that went down the last fifteen years somehow didn’t matter and were in the cards from the start in order for us to have this unbelievable privelige to see this band perform live as it was meant to be seen and heard. J is the fucking master at guitar and the dynamic he has with Lou on bass and Murph on drums surpasses anything I have heard live or on record in my entire life (and I’ve seen a ton of shows). I walked out of the House of Blues after the show and have never seen so many people just congregate by the exit not wanting the night to end, but all of us utterly speechless just happy to be with others who experienced what had just went down. I can’t wait to see the San Fran and Hollywood shows next month. Hope to see you all there.

I am so there and I cannot wait.

I’m taking my friend Roger to see 4 back-to-back dino shows.
He’s 55-60 years old, seen the Fog once in DC in 2004, blew him away.
