I learned alot about music from the radio.Years ago I`d buy a few audio tapes and tape stuff from the radio.Does anyone find it odd that in this age of Ipods,CDR`s,and whatever that no one has invented a new device in which you can tape from the radio?I can`t find audio tapes in stores anymore. It`s all CDR`s these days and you can`t burn a cd of a radio show

Taping from the radio is a lost art

May 16, 2006 at 4:17 pm #117512SG you made a point! Maybe it has to do with the quality of radiostations on one side and the other side, how easy it is to download stuff for free without the DJ disturbing your tape.
Even now, sometimes, I hear an old song on the radio ( a song I recorded from radio years ago), and I exactly know when the dj interupt the song, or when the hiss is there on my origianl tape! It still is in my system, and will stay there till I’m a mindless, teathless old man. Downloading makes it less organical I guess.May 16, 2006 at 5:20 pm #117513Yeah today it`s easier to download a song and put it in your Ipod then wait for a radio station to play it.But it`s the end of documenting a radio show I find sad. There was this guy in the `40s and `50s in Brooklyn that stayed up all night taping the live jazz broadcasts from the jazz clubs on 52nd Street. Those tapes were released on albums. If he did`nt do that we would`nt be hearing some live Charlie Parker recordings.Sure radio stations keep things in archive but maybe not always keep it.Sometimes the public has to help out.
May 16, 2006 at 6:37 pm #117514I still have a tape deck in my car… actually it recently killed my copy of Paranoid that I’ve had since 8th grade
May 17, 2006 at 9:01 am #117515I never had a tape deck chew up a tape.Maybe get wrapped around but never actually ruin it.
Yeah mainstream radio don`t interest me much. Most of my taping was from the national network the CBC which plays classical, jazz, and a bunch of other stuff. And the local college station which I kinda drifted away from listening to almost a decade ago.May 17, 2006 at 9:49 am #117516There’s no music like LIVE music….guess we’ll have to see more shows, huh?Fuck the radio, too much time spent changing stations looking for something we’ve heard before and could listen to without removing our hair.
Amen.
May 17, 2006 at 5:51 pm #117517the only device i had to play music on in senegal was an old sony walkman (casette). it held up just fine, but i did wear a few tapes out. i still have a tape deck in my car as well, and hundreds of casettes…
July 20, 2006 at 2:27 pm #117518You know what makes me mad is when you dig up some old tape you haven’t heard in years and you go to play it and it sounds totally warped and slowed down and you realize that now you have to go and buy the cd if you want to ever hear it again. Ugh.

Well, I have to admit I’ve lost alot of respect, calling music trash are ya…..
….I was referring to a certain person in a certain train a couple of days ago, he was singing along (and rather badly btw…
) to his personal selection of Nickelback, Creed, Counting Crows and some Dutch favourites in the same ‘genre’
, worst thing was that he replaced the parts he didn’t understand with something like ‘…haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa haaa ha haaaaaaaaaaaaa haaaaaaaaaaa huuuuuuuuu hmmmmmmmmmmm ha haaaaaaaaa…."…….
