      After the Goldrush
      Helpless
      Powderfinger

Cowgirl in the Sand is right up there too….

motion pictures (actually, anything from "On The Beach")
          mellow my mind
          everybody knows this is nowhere
          albuquerque
          winterlong

          ….man..i could go on and on…………. :)

            1. Like a Hurricane (I’ve said it on here before but I’d love to hear J cover this one, it’s tailored to his voice and guitar playing)
            2. Cowgirl in the Sand
            3. Down By the River
            4. Everybody Knows This is Nowhere

Yeah, I’m a little heavy on songs from EKTIN but it’s my favorite of the ones I own.

Does anyone have the new album? I just picked it up, and its so good! It’s pretty much a rock album, with lots of protest (one of the songs is called "lets impeach the president") . From the new one, the best track is the soon-to-be-classic
              "The Restless Consumer".

…many good tunes listed above, i’d add:

                    cinnamin girl
                    out of control
                    harvest moon
don’t let it bring you down

                      in no particular order:

on the beach (the whole album, especially the title track)
                      cortez the killer
speakin’ out (the band was drunk on tequila)
                      thrasher
                      don’t cry no tears

Basically most of the "best" songs have already been mentioned…

Off the masterpiece album On The Beach I’d like to nominate Ambulance Blues for #1. But the whole album is a collection of best songs as already pointed out…

Like A Hurricane, Powderfinger, Hey Hey My My, and a lotta more afore mentioned tunes have to be on the list as well of course…

And the new album really rocks. Besides The Restless Consumer I think Shock And Awe is not only my top fave song on LIVING WITH WAR but also will stand the test of time…

Powderfinger* and Trasher are because of sentimental reasons my two fav’s. But I like the ragged glory pieces a lot too. After the goldrush is my favorite album though.

                          * the first chord does the thing. E maj as I recall

I only have On the Beach and Harvest, so I don’t think I can say with any authority what his best songs are…both those albums are great though.

basically the entire tonights the night album is perfect, most notably borrowed tune, mellow my mind, albequerque(sp?), lookout joe, and tired eyes (in my opinion the best neil song). and some other songs:
out on the weekend, needle and the damage done, see the sky about to rain, after the goldrush, tell me why, don’t let it bring you down, cortez the killer, harvest moon. well, it’s actually about as hard for me to do a favorite neil list as it would be dinosaur, so i’ll just leave it at this.

This thread is so perfect.. I love Neil Young and I always equate him in my mind somehow with J..

                                Best songs:

                                Cowgirl in the Sand
                                Old Man

Funny you should mention that album (LOVE the cover, btw). I broke this out on vinyl last Saturday night and man, does it sound awesome. Sometimes I tend to associate him with his softer stuff and forget Neil can rock out with the best of em….
