i was browsing another thread and noticed a few folks bitching about people talking on cell phones and stuff………and i couldn’t agree more!! if you need it for some emergency or something, fine……leave it on vibrate, and hit the lobby when you need to use it. i was at a jeff tweedy show a few years ago and some jackass took a cell phone call in the middle of "sunken treasure" and twedy tore the guy a new asshole…..it was fucking great. he stopped right in the middle of the tune and addressed the guy directly…hehe. the guy split pretty directly (don’t know if he left the gig entirely, or just went to the lobby). thankfully jeff started the tune from the top..to a deadly silent crowd…….

i almost felt a bit sorry for the poor idiot..everyone in the place was staring him down……….but……hehe..

Mosh pits during the most mellow songs…I remember I had tickets to a Foo Fighters show years ago, so we went and Dave played I think Everlong solo and very acoustic sounding….Didn’t think it was time for a pit in my opinion :- :) It did look a little strange :)

Singing songs out loud like at J’s accoustic shows, I know a lot of people do it, perhaps even some of you, but when I want to get my J on, I get into my car and put on the cd, then I can sing say, "get me" or "tarpit", out loud, right along with J, I mean I know the words, I can do a little harmony but I wont be offending anyone Right? I have been to several shows and am standing next to some folks who just love to sing along and I know that singing is wonderful and a beautiful thing, it’s just, your standing next to me singing in one ear, like book a show at "Tasty World" and put me on the guest list I might come check you out.

          finished my rant

On a related — but postive — note, when I saw the Pogues this past St. Paddy’s night there was lots of singing along, which is fine, since it’s amazing to hear so many people singing along to such brilliant lyrics (it shows great taste, if nothing else). And it’s the Pogues on St. Paddy’s night, for christ’s sake! If you’re not singing along to the chorus of "Streams of Whiskey" you must be a dead man!

But when they played "Rainy Night in Soho," the whole crowd (it seemed) — about 2,500 strong — sang the entire the first verse; then, as if everyone simultaneously realized just how incredible Shane MacGowan sounded, everyone stopped singing instantly and just listened to him and the band for the rest of the song. It was a beautiful moment in a gig of truly mythic proportions.

As for peeves, just before the band came on (they played the Clash’s "Straight to Hell" over the PA as their intro music), I sparked a spliff, and my friend — who doesn’t smoke, but likes the smell and feels it’s not really a rock show unless you smell the herb in the air — took a huge breath through his nose to take it in…….and received instead a noseful of someone’s fart. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been gassed at shows. Granted, it’s a natural thing, but still……..

People that socialize during the set drive me nuts. I went to a Glen Phillips show recently and this girl in front of me just turned around and talked to her friends the entire time, loudly. Tickets were $20 and beers were $7. Why pay that kind of money to talk to your friends? Just go to a bar, put $.50 in the jukebox, play a Toad the Wet Sproket song, drink your $3 beer and talk the night away if that’s all you want to do.

Anna has a brilliant point about singing along. It’s very annoying when you can barely hear the band you paid to see over the sound of some jerk singing loudly and off key. Certainly there are exceptions, like singing along to Streams of Whiskey. ;) That must of been one fantastic night.

As a girl, I can’t stand random gropings! Ugh. Or if you right up front and some aroused guy keeps rubbing against your ass. It’s a little distracting fellas when all you came to do was see a show.

Inconsiderate, smelly people… :( I’m a 17 year old girl, a short one at that (5’3" or so) and it’s not fun getting pummeled. Last time I saw Dino, you know, I waited outside for an hour and a half so I could get the best spot possible and a third of the way thru the show, this sweaty asshole who had maybe a foot on me decides he wants to be closer to J and just pushes me out of the way. Not cool! It’s hard enough for me to see as it is.

This was at the Ottobar in Baltimore in like 2006. But you were at the Black Cat? I was gonna go to that but DC’s a pretty long drive from here. :( Next time, though.
And that’s awesome. That front spot’s awesome as long as you can keep it.

And Awesome Color played too? My boyfriend saw them on the same tour and he loved them. Apparently they invited him backstage for pizza also.

This should go in that concert pet peeves forum, but we’re notorious for showing up 5 minutes before the band goes on, and charge right to the front of the crowd. People are pissed at first, but when they see us all rocking out, and knowing like every song, they’re cool.

Alex is a front row charger too. He makes a nice path to follow.
I remember we stormed the crowd in Los Angeles one time, and were clinking beer bottles above people’s heads.

Alex and I stormed a huge crowd in NYC one time. I remember I went into the crowd doublefisting two beers in each hand, and lost them all by the time we got to where we were going.

                                :alien:

As I said earlier, there are some really inconsiderate people.
