OK so I’m out at a friends show Friday night. Everyone is complaining about how the opening band sucks (including the other bands playing with them). So I anty up, "Well you should have asked me, I would’ve come and played Dinosaur jr songs on my acoustic." Their eyes lit up and said, "Next time for sure!"
Now part of me was serious and part of me was joking. Sure I could play those songs, I play them all the time. But would it be in bad taste? What do you guys think? Would you be stoked if you saw some guy doing dinosaur jr covers at a bar? I would want to do them like J does them with an acoustic guitar and effects. So what do you think, I’m curious to know. :-

I would def do it, maybe throw in some Neutral Milk Hotel covers just so it’s not so monotonous

I thought it would be cool too, but wasn’t sure since they’re back together if it would be lame. I guess I could bill it as Tonasaur – A tribute to Dinosaur jr. It’s only an opening spot so the set would only be like 6 maybe 7 songs. It would be rad to throw that shit down like J though.
Yeah the wolf shirt is a definate too.

It’s always fun to hear someone do covers of good music. It’s almost like a special little surprise.So this whole idea has been kicked around for a while, and something might finally come of it. A friend of mines band is having a CD release party in late October. They have asked if I would still be interested in opening the show with some Dinosaur covers. I agreed and we’ll see what happens. No firm date has been set yet. I’ll play with an acoustic and some effects.
My tentative set list is:
Tarpit
Thumb
Raisans
Keeblin’
The Wagon
Freakscene
Little Fury Thingscool man
thats basically the set of dinosaur songs i play at gigs. minus tarpit and raisans and plus not you again and severed lips.how are you setting up the effects? whenever i kick in distortion through an acoustic-electric i get terrible, kinda uncontrolable, feedback.

I have a little over a month to find a solution though. I’ll let you know what I come up with.
