the gold pickguard got me thinking of Js guitars. I started thinking that the paintjob was new, and maybe it is not sunburst colour under. when repainting they have to strip down the original paint, so it’s not necceserly possible to see the original paint anywhere.
I have a critic eye on the jazzmasters on ebay now, but it probably won’t be very easy to find out if there have been a lot of modifications. and what freakscene detective is gonna tear the guitars appart and check for traces? I can’t afford that guitar. ;) :D

Its a rad guitar for sure. Right up J’s alley. He’s probably one of the only ones out of all of us who can afford it too. I bought my Jazzmaster off of ebay and it worked out great. I’m guessing my naivity and some luck made it work out. Its a great guitar and has been my main axe since I got it. Once I got it though is when I sarted hearing the horror stories of buying things on ebay that didn’t come as advertised.

"This guitar has the aluminun gold pick guard."

Wow… a nun pickguard… what could be luckier than that?!

A very good-looking guitar. Sometimes I don’t like how metal flake comes out, but it looks good here. I dig his table-cloth too!

wonder if the seller (the ebayers cousin) is an old man who likes sparkle colours. Or if he is a young guitarist who suddenly felt like repainting an old guitar.

dunno sometimes people dont like the color so they respray them
it cuts alot off of the price
i figure if your a guitarist and not a collector it be better to get one like that
refinished guitars are alot cheper then original finishes
plus you can paint them the color you want ;) and not feel bad
if i had the money id deffently go for that one i love the finish on it!
                    sadly i dont… oh well

This particular guitar would probably be pretty expensive regardless. There are just aren’t that many 59′ Jazzmasters around anymore.

you dont have to take the finish off to refinish a guitar. Sometimes it’s best to, I always do. I do because Fender started putting too much paint on the new guitars. I take it down to the wood and then put about a spray paint can amount of paint on it (including the base/prime coats) Then I relic the CRAP out of them! Fender in the 60’s even painted over the finished guitars (the Respray guitars you hear about). Also the reason why some relic guitars have sunburst underneath the new finish. I like that idea if you go with a latex paint or the like. You can just strip the finish later if you want to…..it’s cheap paint and you can see if you like it or not. If you wanna sell it……strip it back to original finish…just be carefull.
I almost got a ’59 Jazzy body (with all electronics) with a ’64 or ’65 Strat neck off of Ebay. I just about had the guy talked into a trade for it for my Mustang, a broken Dobro and a Mandolin. But then someone in like Europe bought it now……jerk!

I saw another 59 jazzmaster on ebay. but the body was apparently from 1965. And there was a story behind the guitar, which the seller could not quite verify. I´m sitting on a mac and I´m just to stupid to find out how I copy and paste the internet link. If you check out ebay now, you´ll see the sunburst guitar I´m talking about.
well, the guitar is cool.- I´m just apparently quite paranoid about the jazzmasters on ebay after the stealing form dinosaur. ::)
