Has anyone heard about these and if they’re good? I think these USA Jazzmasters are relatively new. Last I checked they just had ones made in Korea or something.
They’re a little pricey?
September 28, 2006 at 1:08 am #122361isn’t Mattman’s Jazzy made in the good ol’ U.S. of A.? I was thinking it was……hmmm. I like his though…..a lot. I really want one, but I’m wondering just how much difference there is between my Jagmaster and the Jazzmasters. I don’t know…..I’ve played both before, but it’s been soo long since I’ve even seeeen a Jazzy, I don’t remember.
*GAAAAHH!!!!! (my cat just put her artic little nose on my pinky toe!!!)*

September 28, 2006 at 9:14 am #122362Mine is an American reissue. When taken apart it is wired exactly like an original 62. Cloth wires, the whole nine. I believe they were reproduced using the same materials and techniques that were available in 1962. They are very nice guitars.
September 28, 2006 at 9:29 am #122363randyman: the jagmaster has different pickups than jazzmaster I think?
I would like to try a new us jazzmaster. I have a 63′ and I like it alot. the rosewood fingerboard and the thick neck shape are great. I have a 66 jazzmaster with white bindings on the neck. I think maybe the neck is a little thinner, but not sure as I don’t have the guitar in front of me.September 28, 2006 at 1:28 pm #122364yeah, there are differences between the two. Pickups, bridge, electronics etc. I don’t remember the body wood on my Jagmaster…..Alder? Agathis? Dont know. Yeah, I have humbuckers….the first cheap-ish set of 1/4lb’s that I find though……are being slapped in it. I kinda like the bridge that’s on mine though, so I’m not going to lose wood by routing out the Jazzy bridge setup. I know there are differences electronically, but I meant playability. I think I’m too into the classic Strat tone to spend a grand on a guitar that wont get that tone right now…..maybe I could do that later. I think I actually want to save for an old SG with P-90’s. I love ’em.
September 28, 2006 at 2:10 pm #122365hi randy.
I aslo could very much like to own a les paul. one from the eighties or of course older. a black would be cool, or another neutral colour as long as it’s not flameburst. flameburst looks cool on ace frehley, but I for one could not have chosen one.October 4, 2006 at 9:45 am #122366My JM is a USA (2002), but it’s in a sad state.
The neck is shot. It has a bow in it that the truss rod can’t fix, which causes the last few frets to bottom out unless I set the action really high. It’s always had this problem, but it seems to be getting worse. I took it to my guitar tech guy, and he said that it’s probably a factory defect, but since I’m not the original owner, I have no recourse through Fender. So, basically I need a new neck. I’m combing ebay for a CIJ neck, either a ’66 Jazzmaster neck or a ’62 Strat neck (both are identical, but the Strat neck wouldn’t have the correct decal on the headstock). I could just sell it, but I’m kinda attached to it. I don’t care if the neck doesn’t match as long as it’s playable.Where am I going with this?
My guitar guy says that he’s seen a lot of hit and miss quality coming out of Fender’s USA shop. He also says that the Japanese made products are much more consistant in their quality and that they’re a much better deal… cheaper and less likely to be defective. So, if you want a JM, I’d recommend going with a MIJ/CIJ one and then maybe switch out the pickups, since some of the Japan JM pickups are not vintage spec (they look like JM pickups, but are wound like Strats).
Wish me luck on my search for a new neck!
October 4, 2006 at 10:19 am #122367Man that really sucks. My Jazzmaster was made in 1999 I believe its the Sherwood Green sparkle color. I believe that color was only made in 99′. I guess I really got lucky getting a good one. Hope you get it figured out. :-
November 8, 2006 at 1:12 pm #122368I bought a MIJ ’66 Jazzmaster RI /block and binding. The PU’s aren’t great, but the playability and quality are first rate as good or better than the newer USA ones. Just my experience when I tried both.
