November 4, 2006 at 2:08 am #122854I gave The Greatest a listen again yesterday and whilst it has a few storming tunes I kinda think that You Are Free is a much better album…. I dunno… Cat Power is great n’all but The Greatest seems a little empty compared to YAF, like some of the songs are sketches as opposed to being fully realised. The whole Memphis/Ardent thing as well – not knocking the folks chops or anything and maybe it’s testament to their abilities that they don’t go and play all over the record (and really ruin it) but I think that side of it just added to the ‘story’ and maybe fuelled the record company PR machine. I don’t think it really brings much to her as an…. ‘artist’. But hey! I still dig this record so I should shut up right?
November 4, 2006 at 4:07 am #122855and can I say that the single of the year is by a band called Fields with a track called ‘If You Fail We All Fail’ and it’s out on the 20th Nov ta
