Parchman Farm was originally by jazz/bluesman Mose Allison from 1957.Though I think Bukka White`s song of the same name from 1940 probably influenced him.The Byrds answer is correct

Tony is right on both,I owe you a karma point later

              SG,

I never knew Blue Cheer had covered that. Thanks for the info. My music knowledge only reaches back to the 60’s.

              Cool thread.

5 is still unanswered so I`ll give some clues ;):

                    3-think gunfighter ballads
                    10-think of Maxini`s home country
12-`70s band with an american city in their name
13-Mr doom and gloom of Canada
14-Kentucky boy with tight jeans and cowboy hat

Cohen is correct but not Morricone

3-think gunfighter ballads – Marty Robbins
10-think of Maxini`s home country – ABBA (although these days I rather associate that name with pickled herring..)

Well I also know the remaining two now, but only after asking google… 8)
