Perhaps this forum will help me out a little. Has anybody had a bad experience with IK Media? It’s a audio production software company, and their policy on license transfer seems outlandish. Software companies want to get money from not only their original customer, but also the person who buys the software used.
I bought on ebay a cheap copy of IK Media’s Amplitube software (makes your guitar sound like a fake version of a real Marshall). I got an obsolete version that cost around $60 three years ago just to toy around with it. It turns out, I can’t use it on my computer unless I pay IK Media $30. They told me that this is the industry standard, but it appears from a review of EULAs from Adobe, Digidesign, Steinberg and Avid indicate to me that some of the important software companies don’t try an chisel extra money out of outdated software.
Can you imagine such "transfer" fees in other industries? What if you had to pay Toyota a fee, equal to 50% of the original purchase price, to sell your used Camry?
