March 1, 2007 at 10:32 am #126137was good to meet you last night pal.
thought mascis treated it with the disdain that was due, a bunch of industry back slappers on a freebie. he was amazing, but really seemed that he didn’t want to be there (even more than normal).
spent about three hours trying to bribe my way in until some MTV type allowed me her "+1". i love this little venue though, and had a great time, it must be very hard trying to be enthusiastic when you know that half the people there have no idea who you are or are there to enjoy the music.
saying that, i was terribly drunk and may have imagined it. whilst waiting outside my friend and i wandered (by mistake) into some private party, partook in some free beers and tried in vain to get involved with the buffet.
i then got the wrong bus (BUS! That’s how drunk I was) home and ended up completely lost.
top night.
ignore everything above.
March 1, 2007 at 10:33 am #126138meant ignore everything above that I’ve written, not my new found friend.

March 2, 2007 at 12:19 pm #126141You’re right about J not seeming like he wanted to be there.
Loved the way he walked off stage and straight out the door!
I got the unknown song and Get Me on video that I will put up somewhere , when I’ve worked out how to get the file size down to something reasonable. Between the unknown song and get me J says "that’s an excerpt from a new song".March 2, 2007 at 5:28 pm #126142cool pic from the show, from dangriffiths.com he’s wearing his dino shoes…

Quote:Tonight, J Mascis playing solo, is in London to re-establish Dinosaur Jr in the UK’s collective consciousness and introduce the new album. This evening’s specially invited audience made up of industry movers and shakers, scribes and photographers, plied with complimentary drinks, is here for a reason and one reason only. Make no bones about it; this is a staged media event designed to spread the word.Given the superficiality of the affair its no surprise J seemed uncomfortable. Looking like a cross between Simon Bates and a bloated Woody Allen, but still with his trademark dangling locks, he barely says a word all evening. But then again, armed with an acoustic guitar and a Fender Twin amp, J Mascis doesn’t need to talk. The noise he propels from the stage is everything we need to know. Never before have I heard such gut wrenching power from such a minimal set up. One man and his guitar practically threw me against the walls. J Mascis likes to play loud. Drawing on material ranging from Dinosaur Jr’s 1985 debut ‘Dinosaur’ through to the new ‘Beyond’ album, he treats us to something of a greatest hits show. Then, with feedback still whining, and without acknowledging the audience, Mascis leaves the stage; undoubtedly satisfied he’s done his job.
Dinosaur Jr’s past eminence and their influence on American post-punk is undisputed. Nevertheless, if tonight’s show is anything to go by The Dinosaurs are nowhere near extinction. They’re intelligent storytellers, very much aware of the frailties of the human condition, yet as ferocious as ever, and sound ready to win over, once again, the true fans unquestionably out there
