        ….the Dutch are making history over there ;D ;D ;D ;D ;

        Quote:
        South Africa’s Herschelle Gibbs today made history by hitting six sixes in an over – the first time the feat has been achieved in international cricket.
        Gibbs savaged the unfortunate Daan van Bunge as South Africa charged towards a mammoth total at Warner Park in their World Cup Group A match in St Kitts.

        Netherlands: 132 for 9 South Africa : 353 for 3
        South Africa win by 221 runs (Reduced to 40 overs – rain)

        ……slightly edited from the Guardian, at least there’s something positive to it 8):

        Quote:
        One of the World Cup’s sponsors have announced they are to pay $1m US dollars (£513,000) to the charity Habitat For Humanity as a result of Gibbs’ feat.

            it’s perfectly simple. we invent a game, are good at it for a while, and then the f@@king Australians come along and ruin it by being much better than us. Bucky – that’s brilliant – what a record to set. Still, at least you expected nothing. Our wondeful media build us up as potential winners, only to slaughter the team when we narrowly avoid defeat to Ireland.

            Our shining moment of glory so far was after the defeat to new zealand, our vice-captain (Andrew Flintoff, nickname Freddy as in Flintstone) got utterly arseholed on booze, and stayed up until 4am, then stole a pedalo and made a break for it. He fell off 100 metres into the sea and almost drowned. Still, there’s one thing that us English still excell at, hic!

              Freddy didn’t happen to be at the cricket academy when Rod(one time recordholder of beer cans consumed on a Sydney to London flight)Marsh was in charge?

                i think you mean david boon. he consumed 50 cans of lager on a flight from australia to uk in the 80’s!

                  David Boon broke Marsh’s record,but included the stop over in Singapore..and the connecting flight from Tasmania I think.

                    ….basically it’s a quite simple game, one team tries to hit the ball as far away as often as they can, the other team does everything to avoid that…. ;D 8) :)

                    Played cricket myself as a student @ the Eindhoven Polytechnic, and twice a year we played against the team from the Birmingham Polytechnic, we always lost the away game, but at home we had a chance: we always took them out on a pre-match drinking binge the night before the match, the next day it somehow was easy to score a couple of wickets before they even knew what was happening…. ;D ;D ;D :D ;D
