here’s a topic in the same vein as interpretation of the lyrics.
what inspired the riffs/lyrics of certain songs.

here are two examples:

Where’d you go: J took a guitar riff idea from the song Ziggy Stardust, maybe in a moment of irritation not being invited to perform Quicksand in Bowie’s 50 years celebration concert. Robert Smith did the duet.Water: The opening chord is quite like Neil Young’s Cortez the Killer. And the text could derive from "He came dancing across the water".

March 28, 2007 at 11:50 am #126638I think Same day is inspired by people who wake up and go to work only to get away from their family, and how they love those people they work with. They work graveyard shifts too. That means they go to sleep and wake up on the same day. They have partners named Raymond, which helps Jaron carefully select his "everyoneloves" name. He’s into that seperation thing. Anyway you might find yourself at work with someone nicknamed Killer because someone wants to take your life. Do your best don’t mess. They may find a picture of an online friend, pieced together with yourself. He can’t hold it because it’s not printed. Well, that was her doing. And you’ll find yourself locking the door and hitting the floor cause you want to smoke a joint and play some guitar. Basically J drills people’s heads, sucks all the oil out, and then in some bizarre musical mating ritual rips the head off and smacks it with a Louisville slugger into the trash bin. Lou was right, way back then. Informants, Hacks, Bugs. So it’s a happy song about the death.
