Hello everyone. I’ve been really into Dinosaur Jr, so I thought I’d might as well join these boards… we’ll see how it goes!
About me: I’m a Senior in High School, 18 years old. I live in the Salt Lake City area (and I’m a little annoyed that Dino is skipping this area on their tour…). Um, I will be attending Utah State University… now onto the important stuff: I love Dino Jr, it’s true, but I also love bands such as Meat Puppets, Pixies, R.E.M., fIREHOSE, Husker Du, The Replacements, most of the grunge stuff, Rush, The Twilight Singers, Paul Westerberg, Grant Hart, Mark Lanegan, My Bloody Valentine, Mermen, various movie and videogame soundtracks, LDS music (I’m Mormon), etc, etc.
Anyways, concerning Dinosaur Jr. I first got "Without A Sound," and to be perfectly honest, I didn’t like it much at all. Time went on, occasionally iTunes would play a song off of the album, at which I’d think: "Well this guy’s a great guitarist, but his voice…" Things were like this till about 3 months ago, when I became bored with everything else I was listening to. I looked up Dino Jr on Youtube, and fell in love with "Little Fury Things." I also like the J Mascis and the Fog live performances with Mike Watt, as I’m a big fan of his. So, one thing led to another, I picked up "Green Mind," learned to love it, and my collection’s been growing ever since. It wasn’t until a little breakup in my life, however, that I truly picked up on the essence of the music. Listening to J Mascis’s "Martin + Me," I realized that nearly every song had something to do with girl problems, and I’ve since taken J’s work and everything connecting to Dinosaur Jr to heart.
And that is my history with this wonderful band. It’s a pleasure to be in the midst of those who can appreciate this extraordinary band.
