Hey,
I’ve been a long time fan and own everything Dinosaur Jr has released except the first album "Dinosaur" from 1985 and a few b-sides, but only recently I’ve started looking in detail at the whole Dinosaur Jr discography and I’m hoping I can get some info on a few things.
I’ve read that "Show Me the Way" was not originally part of the "You’re Living All Over Me" album and
that it was a bonus track when it appeared on the album.
So when did it first appear on the album and has it been on all copies of the album since then ?
Is it considered to be a "real" part of the album or is it thought by Dinosaur Jr fans that it is not part of the "real" album ?
Also "Hot Burrito #2" and "Turnip Farm" and "Forget It" are bonus songs on the re-issued 1991 "Green Mind" album.
Why are they on this 1991 "Green Mind" re-issue, were’nt they released for the first time as b-sides in 1993 which was 2 years after "Green Mind" ?
Does this mean the songs were recorded in the 1991 "Green Mind" era but not released until 1993 ?
And is the normal version (not live version) of "Quest" which is on the "Get Me" single and the "Out There" single the same as the "Quest (acoustic)" version which is on the "Quest" compilation album ?Thanks

May 5, 2007 at 12:29 pm #128535I cant answer the first part of your question but i will try to help out with the second part and third part. Although my answers are speculative in that i think the reason why they choose to put those bsides on green mind was because they were on the Quest comp which was an overseas release and out of print. The first track on Quest is a live version of Quest and the last track on Quest is the acoustic version of Quest. Im not familiar with the singles versions. But the recorded version is not present on the comp. Hope this helps.

Little Fury Things,In A Jar,and Show Me The Way were on an ep that came out before YLAOM came out but was added to YLAOM in later issues.Show Me The Way was left off the 2005 reissue of YLAOM because J felt it was poorly done.

I read somewhere that J said Hot Burrito #2 Turnip Farm and Forget were recorded around the same time as green mind, they just weren’t released until later. That is why they were packeged with the green mind reissue and not he where you been reissue.

I would guess those tunes are from Where you been era.

May 5, 2007 at 2:09 pm #128540it’s not only the way the instruments’ sound, but also J’s voice is just like the where you been- voice.
May 8, 2007 at 5:19 am #128541Thanks guys, ah so I guess if the version of Quest on the Get Me and Out There singles is an ACOUSTIC version then it must be the same ACOUSTIC version that is on the Quest compilation album, so I have it already !
Looking forward to compiling a CD of all the Where You Been singles and b-sides !
