Hey, big fan of Dino Jr. here, I’ve got a question for some people on this forum. Dino and Sonic Youth were the bands that got me into music, and when I heard that Dinosaur Jr. were going to be playing Toronto on June 8th, I was incredibly happy that I’d finally be able to see one of my favourite bands live. However, I was immediately let down when I found out that the show is at The Phoenix, which is normally 21+. I’m only 15 (will be 16 in August), but I’m hoping that I can somehow get in.
Has anyone else ever had this dilemma? Have you been able to meet the band and get them to let you in on the day of the show, email someone to get yourself on the guestlist or something, or just connive your way in in some other manner? Myself and two friends are making the jaunt to Toronto on the day of the show, and hoping that we can somehow get in.
If anyone has any advice, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
May 21, 2007 at 7:56 pm #129159I had the same problem when Sebadoh was playing in Louisville at Headliners. I wound up not going and I was pissed, but someone told me they hardly ever check anyways and that I could have gotten in. I’am sure its not the same everywhere but it could work.

May 23, 2007 at 9:28 am #129161There was a young man who rocked at the Troubador show, he was 12. Yep, bring a guardian or note from mom & dad. Heck, bring mom & dad and introduce them to your musical tastes (that might do it–I hope…)
May 23, 2007 at 2:27 pm #129162Show up early and hang around by the door where the crew goes in and out, stroll in behind them, then hang around in a stall in the bathroom until they let people in the club, at which point you can just join the crowd. It worked for me and my friends at more than a few Ramones shows when we were underage. Then again, we kind of looked like roadies.
July 15, 2007 at 6:08 am #129163god man, tell me about it. The Fall, Sonic Youth, Dino, Yo La Tengo… there’s no end to the bands i love that i’ve not been able to see cos of the age thing, and it’s a bitch.
King Tub’s plan sounds like it would work. you could go earlier, but it just depends how long you’re willing to spend in the bathroom stall i guess
you can use similar tactics to get free train rides as well, just fyi
