hey guys out there,do anybody can tell me what different in this two pedal?is it the big muff pedal sound more dirty?
the guild foxey lady is a quite rare licensed copy of the mosrite fuzz-rite, the original fuzz pedal as used on satisfaction. it’s at least 5 years older than the big muff. fuzz-rites, and their tonal successors, the fuzz face pedals – are really spitty and brittle sounding, lots of treble. the big muff will have more bass and be a much bigger fuzz sound, a little more suitable for playing chords, i guess.
so which one pedal do you suggest to play like dinosaur jr?for now im just using jagmaster guitar and russian big muff,
J plays a Big Muff. I think that is enough said WRT J’s sound.
In my opinion, the BM is a more versitile pedal. Really only one sound out of the Mosrite. Though it is highly usable. It was also used by the Ventures.
Not sure how much a Foxy Lady pedal is, but I bought this copy of the Mosrite pedal and its bright, crisp and cuts through a mix like a rhino. Not too pretty by itself though.
They can be found on eBay too.
thank for the link buddy,but it price is more expensive than big muff,but when i read the comments,most user recommend that FuzzBrite just only get a Hendrix sound,maybe bigmuff is cool enough to play like j.
p/s : anybody can tell what pedal j used on Ammaring / The Lung song?
the big muff is definitely more the way to go if you’re looking for a j sound. the heavy parts and the solo in ‘the lung’ are yr standard big muff tone. big muffs are reallly cheap as well.

i know the lung is big muff sound,but i just wonder what pedal j used at the end of the song,it sound like flanger,but im not sure.
the swollen pickle (discontinued, usually 500+ used) and the zvex wooly mammoth are both ‘heavier’ than the big muff, and are awesome for way bassy fuzz tones.
i have the wooly mammoth. one seriously expensive one trick pony, but i like the sound alot.
j was using an electric mistress at the time, but the ending chorus sound sounds like a small stone to me – but thats a guess.

I currently own the Mamoth and though it is bassy, the Big Muff is better for guitar. Remember, the more bassy, the more likely to get lost in the mix. Muff is nice midrange. Besides, a mammoth is $300.
I’ve owned the Frantone Sweet which is very overdriven and not any better than the Muff. I’ve also owned the Zvex Octane 3 but again that too got lost in the mix. I sold them. Nice but not worth $200+
The Zvex Fuzz Factory is more distorted than the big muff but even more midrange. It’s more than twice as much than the Muff so again. I really love the FF and it’s my main pedal.
Also, the Muff feeds back BIG TIME. If you like that go for it. If not maybe save the $200 for a Fuzz Factory
I think with your tase and budet it only makes sense to get a Big Muff. You can even find a classic one from the 1980’s on eBay for under $100.
i have a fuzz factory as well as the wooly mammoth, i think they work EXCELLENTLY together- if i have one complaint about the FF, it’s usually lacking on the low end- kick on the wooly mammoth and you get wayy more bass. the octane is a completely different type of fuzz. i used to have a proctavia, but it broke, i’ve been looking for a new octave fuzz ever since. i think i may check out a fender blender, can’t really justify the expense of the octane.
come to think of it, octave up fuzz is one of the effects i don’t recall J ever using….
i had one of the cheapie sovtek big muffs. i thought it sounded merely ok, then it broke. then my friends stereo polychorus (at the time the most $$$ EH pedal) broke. thats when i decided not to buy electro harmonix stuff.
so you guys agree if i say FF pedal is more better than Muff thats why FF is expensive.its mean worth to get FF because it sound better than BM?need to collecting money,ill get it one day!
I don’t know about the Guild Foxey Lady as having anything to do with Mossrite but I suppose it’s possible that some of the earliest ones were repackaged Fuzzrite pedals.
What I do know off the top of my head is that Electro-Harmonix built at least three versions of the Guild Foxey Lady. The First E-H Foxey Lady was a repackaged version of a two knob fuzz pedal they made at the time callled an Axis Fuzz. The same thing happened with the first two versions of the Big Muff in the early ’70s. As for the differences, well they used the exact same circuit board but I think there were one or two minor differences in component values.
attached to another recommended from another sources,they told me the foxey lady is just prebigmuff,so if i get big muff,thats enough to get brighter sound and tone like j,are u agree?
