For Anyone who read the book, has anyone had different oppinions of the band. Like I had no idea J was that much of a dick sometimes. And the book really made me stop disliking Lou, it made him out to be like an innocent child almost, I actually felt sorry for him, which for the longest of time, I always had disdain for him because I had always believed he was purposely getting on J’s nerves, but I’m not so sure anymore after reading the book.
the show when J attacked Lou, I heard the bootleg from it. Who comes out saying "I’m Sorry, I was just freaking out" Was that J or Lou.
June 6, 2007 at 10:24 am #129750After reading that book I was initially bummed that my guitar hero could be such a dick. It really is your worst nightmare, looking up to someone only to find out they are not like you had hoped.
Then the reunion happened and I’ve been able to meet them at shows. J has never been a dick to me (not that we ever spent a large amount of time hanging out) and Lou & Murph are great to visit with.
I guess I realized that was a long time ago, I’m just thankful for the past few years. The reunion tours, album, DVD, and new merch have been great. I’m enjoying this more than the KISS reunion in 96′.
June 6, 2007 at 1:01 pm #129751I think it shows that all three of them were just very young, very volatile people. I mean, how do you *expect* 3 20yo dudes to get along in a van for interminable hours on end, playing shitty clubs and staying in fleabag hotels ?
All 3 had their issues. J was uncommunicative and aloof, Lou was passive aggressive, Murph was just, well, aggressive. It wasn’t necessarily all J’s fault or Lou’s fault (and the book may in fact go a little easy on him though I haven’t read it in years). They both had a hand in the chaos that was Dinosaur in the mid 80s.
Now, J is much better at communicating in his own way as is Lou but they still don’t really ‘talk’ all that much. As Lou said on loobiecore, they’re his music brothers, or something like that. It will be interesting to see what happens after J’s baby is born. I know it’s changed Lou immesurably.

June 6, 2007 at 2:41 pm #129753Please let me know because I think I told Jeremiah a few months ago…….I have been bustin’ out baby quilts left and right and I have a "boy" quilt………that I call the "J Mascis" it’s purple, black and green……..it has cows and spiders and glitter.
right now it is my most asked for baby quilt design. Holy Goodness, this could be great news.

yeah … I think Lou mentioned it in an interview somewhere so that’s why I felt it was OK to post. Otherwise, perhaps I shoulda kept my big yap shut !
I think Luisa is due October so you’ve got some time to put together that A-#1 special quilt

Maybe someone will see her at the NYC shows tonight/tomorrow (though she’ll probably be hanging out w/ Lou’s wife Kathleen & Hanny).
June 6, 2007 at 3:44 pm #129755Tom-in-C, any word on sex of baby, with three of my children we kept that information a surprise but I know a lot of people like to find out.
I’ m feeling "boyish"
ps I didn’t read any interview that mentioned a baby, I don’t get to read everything but that would have caught my attention.
It’s gonna be hard to get that cat back in the bag……….but my children and I just stopped and had a little prayer time asking for blessings for an easy pregnancy and birth!

June 6, 2007 at 6:52 pm #129759Every time I’ve met J, he’s always been nice. He does talk slow, but aslo has a great sense of humor. I was lucky enough to go guitar shopping with him once, and was amazed at how much he will talk if the subject appeals to him. J seems to be a much happier guy then he was 10 years ago. With his wife, the baby on the way, Amma, and the success the reunion probably having something to do with that.
Murph and Lou seem like good guys as well. I’ve talked to them on several occasions, and they were always friendly.
I think tom_in_chicago is right. They were 3 young guys growing up in a less then ideal situation (in the road, on a bus). Just think if all of our mistakes and flaws from our late teenage years and early 20’s were in print. I’m sure we would all seem a lot meaner/worse.

June 17, 2007 at 7:36 am #129761wow … that is news … congratulations j and luisa …
June 20, 2007 at 5:14 pm #129762I havent read the book, but I assume the issues people mean is the way J treated Lou so badly, and how Lou and J’s fighting made Murph go mental and stuff. in fairness, they were just young and angry people. kinda makes sense really.
least theyre all sound now eh.
