June 25, 2007 at 8:18 am #130343God, he needed a hairbrush, though…
June 25, 2007 at 11:14 am #130344i thought it looked really cool
June 25, 2007 at 11:17 am #130345I thought it looked like he just got outta bed, hopefully not from the back of the van, mind you…

Yeah, he looked like me on a good day… Like the guitar though. Want one

June 25, 2007 at 9:14 pm #130348Holy Christ is Mike Watt out of tune in that video…
Anyways, J’s hair might have started to go grey after the van accident on that Fog tour. Can anyone support this conjecture?
June 26, 2007 at 6:49 am #130349the van accident was just a couple of days after that video
June 26, 2007 at 10:12 am #130350J’s hair was going gray as early as ’99 — I couldn’t believe how graying he was when I saw him and Kevin Shields do their noise thing at the Bay State in Noho in ’99. It does look brown in this footage though, which is weird. J was clearly gray (though not almost white like he is now) when I saw the Fog in fall 2000, and a friend who went to a show in spring 2001 still refers to J as "the bloke with the silver hair."
There’s a reference to it in this interview, too:

Shields and his buddy were in the area presumably helping J record More Light and they decided to play a low-key show in the guise of Wank Factor 7 & Rising, which was a spacey jam-type-group J had at the time with Kurt Fedora. They played some noisy stuff for a while with J mostly on drums and Shields on guitar, but you couldn’t really hear Shields over the noise Fedora and J and the two keyboardists (one was Luisa) were making. The gig was only memorable for the kick of seeing J and Shields play together, not for the performance itself.

I think the gray or the silver hair I should say looks pretty awesome,it changes color in stage lights when playing at concerts.
July 6, 2007 at 11:51 am #130354yeah i remember during the watt shows he was going grey for sure but it still looked a bit brownish esspecially in the videos but at the shows you could tell he was going grey for sure.. then i remember seeing them on the 2003 tour with george and that bass player with the glasses cant remember his name, that was when j was officially fully grey.
July 6, 2007 at 11:53 am #130355now that i think of it watt went officially grey right after the fog tours as well.
July 13, 2007 at 9:45 pm #130356I didn’t notice J had grey hair in 2004, and in 2006 I was too far away. In fact, I’m not even sure it was J who I talked to outside the 40 watt in 2004. Nah, it had to be because I said Hey Jey I’m Tony, and he said nothing. I don’t think J going grey is prematurely, or is it? I think he planned it, that he was gonna color his hair one day to the next.
Whatever, I think it looks awesome on J.
