Personally, I like the 3-piece, but if J wanted to add an instrument, what instrument would you want that to be? If J were to add a fourth guitarist who would you like it to be?
August 5, 2007 at 4:26 am #131078Judging from the live shows I’ve been to there isn’t room for more guitar. But it is an interresting thought, Bad enough shape. With another guitarist they could add more sounds originally from the albums. I think if J added another guitarist the monsterous amp set up would need to be toned down. This would maybe be more "audience friendly", but I don’t think I would prefer that. The Dino tunes played with Broken social scene is an indicator on how that might sound. It would be cool to hear it for one show or so, but I would stick with the live sound they have now.
August 5, 2007 at 6:31 am #131079I agree, Simmons. I found some You Tube Broken Mascis Scene gigs here. The Dino tunes sound better as a trio, but it would be interesting to hear a J’s take on an instrumental release. That might be work that wouldn’t sell.

…or not.
August 5, 2007 at 12:42 pm #131081yeah everyone seemed to be very into the broken mascis scene, but i was not a fan. cool that the broke out some old tunes that havent been played in a while but id rather just hear J singing.. and J playing. im not into broken social scene anyway. saw them open for dinosaur twice during the tour w/the magik markers and they bored me. Magik markers were way better. If its broken.. fix it.

some instruments used on dino songs:
Theremin (Take A Run At The Sun)
Piccolo Trumpet (I’m Insane)
Gettin’ Rough (Banjo)Am I right? Add more?

oh i totally agree i just kinda went off on the broken social scene thing haha.
id like to see them do a song with a trumpet player minutemen style. minutemen used to do a run of songs with a trumpet player live. king of the hill, cheerleaders, the product, and even a sick version of maybe partying will help with a trumpet part. great. i dunno if theres any minutemen fans reading this.
August 5, 2007 at 3:43 pm #131084If they had a trumpet player then they could play I’m Insane live. That’d be awesome.

Sonic youth have had a trumpet player and it sounded good, except when they fell into 20 min nonsense "freejazz".

I’m waiting to hear this Broken Mascis Scene gig, and it will be cool to hear They Always Come. I don’t think I’ve ever heard one live with lyrics.
hey LFT, I either remember or think Out There was performed on Saturday Night Live with Saxophone.
August 5, 2007 at 4:58 pm #131087its hard to picture but Ronald Jones or add another drummer surfers style…not really though
August 5, 2007 at 6:54 pm #131088Having two drummer would probably blink it even more out of rhythym.

Everybody Lets Me Down (Piano)
Thumb (Mellotron)
What Else Is New (string section)Quote:i dunno if theres any minutemen fans reading this.A friend in Norway shared me with some Minutemen songs today. I expected a hardcore band but these songs are more bass and vocal driven. It’s cool.
August 5, 2007 at 9:34 pm #131089i like and respect dino for the fact that they have only 3 men and can create such an amazing sound. There bands with 4 or 5 people that dont sound half as good. Lou makes great rhythm, especially going with the fact that hes also maintaining great basslines.
4 people would make them..blah…another band

August 6, 2007 at 9:55 am #131091Yeah I like em’ the way they are. Although if given the opportunity I would play rythm guitar for them anytime.
