Hi all,
I know I don’t really post here that much anymore, but as many of you know, I have been around almost since the beginning. Anyways, I needed somewhere to vent a little bit and there was always relief that came from sharing my thoughts on here.My mom was diagnosed with central nervous system lymphoma a little over 4 years ago. In layman’s terms—she develops aggressive, rapidly growing tumors in her brain. As the tumors expand, they press against parts of her brain resulting in a variety of mental and physical afflictions.
At the time, doctors gave her 90 days to live. She met a surgeon who was pioneering new forms of cancer treatment at The James Cancer Hospital at the Ohio State University and went on to become one of his first success stories using his treatments. She went into full remission and has been in perfect health since. Luckily, that same doctor is now head of the neurological department, so if anyone was going to treat her, we are glad it is him.
2 months ago my mom got really sick again. She was unable to eat and felt nauseous on a regular basis. She met with a series of doctors and they were almost certain she was sick again with same lymphoma. CAT scans and MRIs revealed 2 new and possibly a 3rd tumor. In recent weeks she has suffered from memory loss, lack of co-ordination, loss of balance, eye and hand tremors, inability to control movement, confusion, incoherent thought processes, acute dementia, repition of statements and conversations, headaches and migraines, lack of appetite, vomitting, and numerous other ailments that are a direct result of the expanding tumors exerting pressure on various parts of her brain.
Friday, she underwent surgery to extract tissue samples to perform a biopsy. They have diagnosed her with the same cancer from four years ago and we are starting a 6 month, extremely aggressive, and highly regimented treatment today.
Although the longterm outlook is good, the next half year will be very trying for us all. She will be sick on a regular basis due to the chemo, and will be on extended stays in the hospital one out of every three weeks. At any point, things could always turn for the worse, but we keep hope alive.
Anyway, I appreciate you all letting me vent for a few. And if you would be so kind, and it is of your nature, will anyone that wants to please just pray for her?
Thanks,
KurticusOctober 17, 2007 at 11:00 am #132305sounds terrible

October 17, 2007 at 11:39 am #132307Hello Kurticus,
I pray that the treatments and surgery work for her and that it eases her suffering.
October 17, 2007 at 11:50 am #132308Best of luck to your mom, you & family, Kurticus. I’ll add her to my (unfortunately) ever-growing prayer list. Would you share her first name with us?

October 17, 2007 at 1:21 pm #132310Of course, I would love to pray for your Mom and for you Kurticus, because when someone we love is suffering, it hurts us as well.
October 25, 2007 at 6:06 pm #132311oh my gosh. that is such bad news. i am sorry for you. i hope you can access good medical marijuana in your state. or can find some good meddy nugs on the street. it can really help with the chemo. hey also try reading up on macrobiotics. my grandma has beat cancer twice with a good doctor and a good macrobiotic diet and homeopathics.
November 14, 2007 at 3:31 pm #132312Thanks for the warm wishes. It felt good just to type about this and release some pent up feelings.
We’re not sure where things are. At first they thought it was a recurrence of years ago lymphoma. At some point the docs decided it was some sort of infection and have been treating her heavily with meds, too no avail. They are going back down the lymphoma route, but honestly aren’t sure what they are dealing with. They have brought in specialists from all over and various disciplines trying to understand what they have in front of them. Honestly they are baffled. The worst part is simply the now knowing…

She has 4 tumors in all, 2 of which have almost disappeared recently, but there are 2 more where her spinal cord meets her brain. Because of the location, they don’t want to perform surgery to biopsy what’s there. We’ve had lots of support from family and friends, so that helps. Just taking things one day at a time.
