trouble playing AVI files

      Hello Freaks!

      Santa bought me my very own computer for christmas and I am in the process of transferring my data from the old household computer to the new laptop.

      Everything is going smoothly but when I try to play AVI files on the laptop, with Windows Media Player, I get audio but no video.

      I’ve scoured the net for advice and everyone seems to have a different opinion as to what I need (codecs and such). I’m feeling overwhelmed and a little bit nervous about doing anything excessive to my new computer.

      Old home computer was Windows 2000, new laptop is Windows Vista.

      Advice desperately needed and greatly appreciated!

        You could possibly be trying to play DivX .avi’s, which are rather common. Download the DivX codec.
