The Stooges-Fun House and Raw Power:get out the peanut butter and broken glass! The boys from Detroit rev it up on these records.

Genesis-Foxtrot and Selling England By The Pound:SUPPER`S READY!some of prog`s finest moments. It`s hard to trust a man in a flower suit but here`s the exception.

The Ramones-Leave Home and Rocket To Russia:1 2 3 4!cartoon punk from Queens.Looking back at older rock and roll mixed with a buzzsaw guitar sound.

Keith Jarrett-Koln Concert:over an hour of solo piano that sold over a million copies.Jarrett is one of the few that can make solo piano really interesting.

X Ray Spex-Germ Free Adolescents:Poly Styrene is one of the great female punk screamers.Bands like Bikini Kill and Sleater Kinney was hugely influenced by her style. The saxophone is a cool idea.

Steely Dan-Katy Lied:while the Dan is thought as bad `70s music by some,I really dig their pop and jazz meld and the cryptic lyrics.

Mahavishnu Orchestra-Inner Mounting Flame:crazy jazz rock!John McLaughlin`s guitar work freaks me out.

Miles Davis-Agharta:this 1975 live album is so good.Wah wah guitars, funky bass, and percussion with Miles` trumpet riding on top in epic length songs is one cool experience.

Sandy Denny-Sandy:the UK folk princess` finest album.

Joni Mitchell-The Hissing Of Summer Lawns and Hejira:Blue be damned! These two mid `70s efforts seem to be a high point in her songwriting.

Neil Young-Tonight`s The Night and Rust Never Sleeps:Neil sounds half dead on Tonight`s but the ragged feel seems to suit the tunes.Rust is both acoustic and electric with some of his greatest tunes.

Rolling Stones-Exile On Main Street:a messy 18 song trip ranging from blues to country

Hound Dog Taylor And The Houserockers-s/t:the Alligator label had some great blues releases in the `70s.Hound Dog`s band was two distorted like hell guitars and drums.Almost like blues punk before blues punk.

Allman Brothers-Live At The Filmore East:long guitar solos that don`t get boring.

Terje Rypdal-Odessey:ECM records had some of the best records of the `70s.Jazz that was contemp enough to attract rock fans.Rypdal seems to balance the jazz rock and prog worlds well.

The Damned-Damned Damned Damned:one of the great punk debuts.Raw,messy, energetic

Clifford Jordan-Glass Bead Games:acoustic jazz was rare in the funky `70s.This upholded Coltrane`s legacy.

Eberhard Weber-Yellow Fields and The Following Morning:german bassist who played a standup electric with a cool sound.Kate Bush took notice,he played on alot of her records.

John Abercrombie-Timeless:another ECM classic.Abercrombie is too humble to be a guitar god but at least people are realizing how good he is these days.

Tom Waits-Heart Of Saturday Night and Blue Valentine:while his `80s stuff is weirder, his `70s output is more of a strange singer-songwriter.Blue Valetine is one of his better blues/jazz albums.

King Crimson-Red:loud prog!Fripp,Wetton, and Bruford was one hell of a unit.

Donald Byrd-Eithiopian Knights:one of the greatest jazz funk records!

Renaissance-Turn Of The Cards:classical influenced prog rock.Great female vocals.

        The Clash-s/t:another fine punk debut

Stiff Little Fingers-Inflammable Materials:I checked this out because Girl loves it,she`s right! Some of the best punk is here.

Albert Collins-Ice Pickin:one of the better blues records of the `70s.Funky Texas blues.

Lee Morgan-Live At The Lighthouse:Morgan`s death from a gunshot(by his girlfriend)in 1972 was a huge loss to the jazz world. This 1970 live album with extended songs shows how brilliant he was.

I’ll start with Let It Be since I nagged about not being able to enter it in the favorites of 60’s thread.
Across the universe is further evidence that the wrong one got snuffed.

I really like After The Gold Rush & Rust Never Sleeps is great. Live Rust as well.

The first Cohen albums, are they from the 60’s or 70’s ?

Poly Styrene has to be one of the best stage names ever. And you’ve written a great list SG, though I’m dumbfound as to why you haven’t included anything from Abba ;)

I don`t think Let It Be as a good Beatles album though Across The Universe is excellent.

After The Gold Rush is definitely one of his best

The first Cohen album is from 1968,the second from 1969,and the third from 1971.

I still might buy that vinyl copy of Arrival by Abba someday!

Patti Smith-Horses:yeah I like crazy women. The poetry and rock and roll was a potent mix.

The Faces-A Nod Is As Good As A Wink:I don`t like Rod Stewart but I can ignore that here.Ron Wood on guitar plus Ronnie Lane on bass sings a few.One rockin album here.

Alice Coltrane-Ptah The El Daoud:wrongly thought by some as a Yoko Ono because of her husband John.Alice was very talented, this record is very spiritual. Her harp playing is like her piano playing, very peaceful and gently flowing.

Albert King-I`ll Play The Blues For You:1972 Stax album, very good soul/blues

Frank Wright-Center Of The World vol 1:play this loud and start an earthquake.Free jazz at it`s wildest

Black Sabbath-Master Of Reality:one of Lou Barlow`s faves.Iommi`s sludgy guitar and Ozzy`s banshee voice

John Prine-s/t and Diamonds In The Rough:the new Dylan tag was wrong,he`s more like Woody Guthrie.Diamonds is more ragged but some damn fine folky stuff here.

I wholeheartedly agree, let it be is allmost a weak album, but across the universe is such a fantastic song that for me it warrants the albums inclusion on my list.

In that case I guess I’ll have to put Cohens debut in the 60’s thread.

You’re actually the third person in under a week who’s talked warmly about that faces album, guess I’ll have to check it out :)

Yeah the first Cohen album is solid.

The Faces are pretty rocking.I never thought I`d want to listen to anything Rod was involved in!

My sentiments exactly. But I guess there’s a first for everything.

The synths towards the end of Magic Man makes me laugh :P I like when Ann gets out her flute on Sing Child
