"Not Enough" from Several Shades of Why
      by J Mascis

      Capo 2

      A

                     A
      She was gone again
                   G D
And I'm not sure what I knew
               A
      But I looked again
                   G D
And the truth gave me a clue
                    A
      Said my love
                        G D
Why was it not enough to keep
                  A
      And it's tough
                G D
      And I can't accept defeat

               Em G
And I know in my mind, I know I should be grateful
                  Em G
But it's hard for me, I'm done so easily

            A
Can we be loved, can we be free
             G D *(w/fill 2x)
Can we be all these things you said to me

      *fill
      --------------------------------------
      -----3---------------------3----------
      -----2^4--2----------2-----2^4-2---2--
      -0---------------2^4---4---------4----
      --------------------------------------
      --------------------------------------

             A
Can we be loved, can we explain
             G D *(w/fill 2x)
Can we be all these things and hold the pain
              A G
Can we be loved, can we be free
              A G
Can we go on, can we not see
                    Em G
'Cause I know myself and I can't take it easy
                 Em G
And it can't be good if I'm the one who's mean

      And we were off again
And I just could not believe
      It took so long again
      I should've known, I should've seen

      Said my love
That was the only way to be
      Not enough
Then the future came to me

And I know in my mind
      I'm outta time, it's over
      And I'll leave him here
Is there no way to show her

Can we be loved, can we be free
Can we be all these things you said to me
Can we be loved, can we explain
Can we be all these things and hold the pain

Can we be loved, can we be free
Can we go on, can we not see

      Said my love
That was the only way to be
      Not enough
      And I can't believe it's me

And I know my love, and I know my love is over
      And I wish I did, I wish I didn't know

        Nice work!
I tweaked the css to make it style a little tighter. I had a little too much line height going on.

Thanks!!! (I couldn’t pull up the editor. Could be a problem on my end)

It was on my end – I needed to tighten up the line height

How about this?I’m not much of a tabmaker but this sounds pretty good to me.T

                       C Am
              I saw You
                       F G
              I saw everything emotion
                        F G
I saw why it's left unspoken

              I crawled out
              I crawled out
I'll do better than the last time
Got so much more than my mind
              I saw You

              I saw You
              I saw You
I know why I went to see it
Still not sure what I believe in

              I walked in
              I walked in
Is this the time I'll understand
will it pass right through my hand
              'till I see You

Said I'm the one how knows
Said I'm the one how knows
Please don't speak of it no more
been left out starting to show

I just stared but not a peep
You walked by it gets too deep
Turn me stick in to my soul
              hasn't changed much getting old

              I saw You
              I saw You
              I saw You

                    Very Nervous and Love
Just two parts to the song, they vary slightly throughout, but this is the gist of it…

I think I’ve worked out the intro riff to Several Shades of Why, if anyone’s interested.

                      Capo 7th Fret

                       Cadd9 G/B? Am G/B?
                      ----0-----0-----0-------------------------------------------------
                      -3-----3-----3-----3p0-0-----------0h1-0-----------------0--------
                      ------------------------------2----------2----------0-------0-----
                      ----------------------------2----2---------2------0----0-------0--
                      -3-3-3-3-3-3-2-2-2---2-2-0--------------------0h2-----------------
                      ---------^---------^----------------------------------------------
                       |-3-| |-3-| |-3-| |-3-|

The bassline is slightly different the second and third time, it changes where the carrots are.

I’m pretty bad at identifying chords so many someone else can figure out what’s played during the verse.

I was able to work out the intro riff for Several Shades of Why and a couple of chords for the verse. Anybody know the chords used in verse?

                            Several Shades of Why chords:

                            (Capo on 7)
                            G: 320033
                            D/F#: 200232
                            C: x32010
                            D: xx0232
                            G/B: x20033
                            Am: x02210

                            verse:
                            G D/F# C D (2x)
                            C G/B Am G (2x)

I play it almost the same way

But I leave the e-string open all the way.
And keep my little finger on the 3rd freth b-string.

Don’t know the real names but something like this:
                              G: 320030
                              D/F#:? 200030
                              C: x32030
                              D: xx0230

                              C: x32030
                              G/B: x20030
                              Am: x02230
                              Em: 022030

yeah i think that’s probably more like it, mind_glow. i transcribed the chords by ear alone, haven’t actually tried to play it on guitar yet, that open E sounds right.
