How awesome was that show? I bet there were 10,000 people there.
December 2, 2012 at 2:45 pm #139813God I am still so jealous, just watched the YLAOM part of the show that was just uploaded to Youtube (cuts before the ending riff of Lose and Poledo wasn’t recorded as the person’s camera phone died) but God…that had to have been the most important show of this age….all of YLAOM…Francis Black…Kim Gordan…like…..just jesus christ

December 2, 2012 at 9:57 pm #139818Just chiming in with my experience of the show. It was the best Dinosaur show I’ve ever seen. I have never seen Dinosaur play with THIS kind of energy and to keep you from guessing I mean mostly J. I know J only has so much energy and presence, but you could tell that he was totally into it last night and it made a big part of the show for me.
New York was just a whole other level for me, the crowd was so into it and Terminal 5 was a great venue to hold this show. I was standing about 3 rows back in the center and I thought it’d be safe, I was dead wrong. The mosh pit ensued during Thumb and got out of control once they played YLAOM. I’m 35 and too old for that now. I got through Raisans and then decided to move off to the side where I would watch the show. I feel bad that I kocked two guys on there asses standing my ground. They chilled out after that, but they could’ve gotten hurt bad and I’m not proud of that.
Lee Ranaldo was a total surprise, but he was one of those question marks of ‘shouldn’t he be here?’ The flute on Thumb a welcome surprise. Frank Black another surprise and Kim stole the show of her performance on Don’t. I did not expect that and at all, but she is a true punk rocker, it was an excellent performance of a song whos repeated screaming of the same same five words grew tiresome to me after five listens. She saved it and showed how a song like that could be so good. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always thought the riff was killer.
I’ll end by saying it was so cool to see Johnny Marr up there playing “The Wagon” I was thinking, “Are they gonna play The Boy With a Thorn in His Side” and then bam! they dropped it. Everyone else was great too. Another highlight was “Alone” as a four peace as well as the other song. I don’t know why they didn’t make a big video out of this, but if they are thinking the same thing and decide to do a show like that again, I will be there. Maybe they’ll get Robert Smith and Peter Frampton!
Best show ever!

December 4, 2012 at 12:27 am #139823Never thought I would see alone and don’t in the same show, too bad mike and George couldn’t come. Would have loved get me and what else is new and I literally would have been set for life and just like heaven was on the set list and I thought it would be the closer but after freak scene everyone kinda knew it was over and they played longer than I have ever heard of or seen them play

yeah it would have been really cool if Mike Johnson was there. Other dream guests of mine would be Kevin Shields, Mike Watt, Doug Martsch, Bob Pollard, Thurston.
I love the version of Almost Fare with Frank Black. The band’s management is pretty savvy, hopefully they’ll capitalize on this anniversary with a Dino tribute album in the near future.

Absolutely loved “the boy with the thorn in his side”, incredible performance with Johnny Marr and Dale Crover on drums. Been listening to that one over and over, it’s stellar. The venue looked cool (I don’t think I’d seen pics from there before), what a great crowd for what was definitely a killer performance. Wish I could have been there. And the flute on “thumb” to boot. I’d say that was probably the best Dinosaur Jr show of all time.
