You know, Allison, I wonder if all the people checking out Canada have a case of grass-is-always-greener-on-the-other-side disease… I doubt many of them have really bothered to check out the things you’ve mentioned. Every country’s going to have its problems, so it’s a trade up either way…

The way I see it anyway, is that all of these people who are threatening to leave on acount of Bush winning the election are running away from their problems instead of trying to face them… If these same people would speak out, write their congressmen, and otherwise quit sitting idly by while the current administration sells our rights and freedoms to the highest bidder, something might actually get done about it.

        That’s my $.02USD anyway…

I have no doubt that 90% of the people checking out the immigration policies will not immigrate, so I agree completely with you…no surprise

I think it’s gonna be hard for people to come together following such a divisive election process. Hope it can happen, but again, I agree, rather than leaving the country, people should try to come up with viable alternatives to what obviously hasn’t been working in your political system

Lets hope the shrub doesn’t lose his mind with the power/control he picked up in the senate/house, hate to see the constitution used to limit peoples rights versus protecting them.

On another site I go to there are BEAR fans spitting venomous insults at each other based on their political opinions, I don’t think they can get back to where they were, the difference in values & inability to compromise or accept anyone elses differences, it’s scary.

Yeah, thats a little scary, We just have to wait it out and see. Young people need to get their heads out of the "game cube"
I think the only thing I can do now is raise my children up to not go into the "game cube" or the television or anything else that might suck your power away.

The Atlanta newspaper has a section called "The Vent" where people can write in and say anything they want. One guy 2days ago wrote," I was in Canada the other day and stopped by the health clinic and got a "Free flu shot." As most of you know our country is "freaking out" over the flu-shot.

First I find out I’ll be stuck in bed for at least 10 days coz of tonsillitis + mononucleosis (it’s only been 3 days and I’m bored to bits already… not enough energy to focus on reading, too much energy to enjoy doing nothing) and now this…watching the news could be good fun if the european leaders would express what they really felt.. but oh no, they have to be so bloody "diplomatic" (i.e. whores for american dollars), praising "continuity" and shit. Some honesty would be so refreshing.

              ok back to bed

…maybe J and Luisa move over to Germany now?

Gosh, FC, Isn’t Germany having some sort of unemployment slup at the moment. I listened to a great radio piece the other day on the future strengh of the EU, however, VERY INTERESTING!!!!

true, Germany is struggling with increasing unemployment numbers for some years now, and the social democratic/green government here is about to cut down social welfare standards.
But I’m with you concerning the wish that the European Union will find to a more coherent alignment, to function more effectively as a counter-balance to the US foreign policy.

I find it so funny that when I first heard about the idea of a unified Europe, I thought, thats just dumb, that will never work and Why?

but I am older now and I hope wiser and all I can say is "Right On, EU" My husband has family in Spain and in France and who doesn’t have good friends all over Europe.
